Thankyou Dr.G and team for the explanation of how quality check at the beginning itself helps in smooth process of rest of the functions, avoiding errors and reworks and reducing time with great output. ( note i use chart contents used in video in brackets below) Correct me if im wrong. Analogy 1. If i be attentive and focus on the learnings you give during lectures itself (quality at source) then i have a better flow of thoughts and structured learnings and i save my time from last minute hustle before exams , allowing me to utilize time for other activity or for revisions(save in time) This will almost reduce my chances of flunking in exam (no error hence no rejection) and hence i need not study again and give supplementary (no rework required). So ultimately allows me to have enhanced learnings and helps me clear exams with great results ( better output). 2nd analogy: My take here is a child needs to be bestowed or imparted with good morals and values right from the beginning (quality at source) for when it grows, it grows to be more socially sensitive and more responsible (better output). It learns to differentiate between evil and good , takes rational decisions for it opens up itself to let his consciousness quide his every action. Follows righteousness and right conduct. (Again great output). Hence less amount of mistakes and sins or crime committed ( no error hence no rejection). Hence least scope for guilt ridden life and repentance (no rework). Hence child turns out to be a better output by helping society and living a pious life. So here because of quality at source one saves time and utilises it in better activities and in leading an exemplary life instead of being caught in vicious circle of life full of sins and repentance and efforts to make up for mistakes. -Srikanth Shetty (BD)

One important thing that Dr. G and his team does is that they explain such heavy and fancy named concepts in a very interesting and practical way. While performing this activity in the class I was the quality checker and was completely unaware of the quality-cost equation. This video not only gives the knowledge of the quality-cost equation but also gives a clear idea of how the industry people work and how they should actually improve i.e. by performing the quality check at source and increasing the productivity at an individual level. Thank you :)

In this video I can clearly understand that if the quality is checked after the end of the process or at the end of the process, in both cases time (and money) will be wasted in rectifying the errors but if the quality is checked in the beginning of the process i.e Quality at Source time and cost will be reduced to a great extent and also the work of Quality Control Department will be reduced considerably. The example taken by you was not complicated at all and so it was easy for me to understand. Thank you Sir.

This video throws light upon the fact that many companies check quality at the end of operations process while the correct thing to do is to check for quality at the beginning. Similar to an action of preemption/ nipping in the bud, this act of checking quality at source not only improves quality but also reduces cost and time taken and fuses a little bit of SMED into the mix. Thank you!

The common notion is that if we increase the quality , cost also increases but here it is proved that it is not always the case.We increased the quality reducing time taken and reducing the number of people needed. So,quality check at source increases quality and saves a lot of time and cost . Thanks Sir for making us understand this concept so simply.

Great concept of keeping errors in check right at the start. Reminds me of the most basic thing we were taught while in school - keep revising what has been taught right after coming back home. That way, we kept the concepts fresh and checked errors - read - doubts or misconceptions about concepts, under check right on the first day. Kudos to the team for demonstrating this experiment in the simplest form!

The quality and cost relationship is redefined in this video. As in our industry we have quality check at the end, it results in re doing the work several times due to faults occuring during our work. But if we have quality check from the very beginning , our time taken as well as cost will be reduced and we get a better quality product. Thank you sir for pointing out the mistakes for us to learn and implement to be better managers in future.

I have performed this activity in the class as the glass filler and even the quality check officer. But even after practically executing it, I got a fresh insight from the video and that was the redefination of the equation of quality and cost. Traditionally, higher the value, more the cost. But standardising can do wonders. And that wonder is called cost reduction, quality control and increased individual productivity. Keeping quality standards need not require a top notch technology or high wage labour. A simple technique learned and executed very tactfully.

This video elaborates the simple concept of necessity of quality check!!! If quality check is taken at source then total production time for operations will be less. But if quality is check after or at end of process then total production time will be more So quality check must be done during or before production to minimize rework and time consumption will be less. Superb elaboration sir and thank you to members who took efforts for making this video.

First of all thanks to dr.g and team for bringing the all these informative vidoes .The way you had explained the whole process of checking quality at source is amazing.Even we had applied the same process in our manufacturing plant.since we manufactures the lead wire for exide industries and it requires 99% lead & 1% tin as chemical composition. So before we purchase lead and tin ingots we sent our team there to do the quality inspections and ask the supplier to provide us the spectro and test certificate for the lead ingot.so that when we convert it into lead wire we can reduce rejections to lower levels.

Hello Sir, Quality at source is a very innovative technique to reduce time which inturn reduces overhead expenses etc. incurred during the process. This approach increases the effectiveness/accuracy of the production for sure, but the cherry on the cake is that it increases the efficiency too:). The industries usually focus on reducing the time lag by using forklifts etc. to transfer the finish goods to quality department as quickly as possible rather than implementing "quality at source". A similar practice which i adopt in my daily life, I usually have a habit of writing down important links etc in an app whenever I come across in lectures/seminars etc. The reason of doing the same is it reduces the time of flipping pages and again typing it and also increases the accuracy(Just a thought, please correct me if I'm wrong). Thank you sir for sharing your valuable insights on this topic and also giving us a chance to share our ideas:) Thanks & Regards, Ashesh.A.Joshi

This reminded me of our eating habits and health. If we follow the balanced diet and do proper exercises, we can remain fit for ages without getting ill rather than taking medicines after falling sick or to recover from any chronic health issues in future. By maintaining a good lifestyle, we can improve the quality of our health in the start itself. Thank you for a wonderful video.

This video provides the essence that quality should be checked at source instead of checking it after completion of process. This video actually changed my perception about many things. I believe quality control at the source can be useful for even creative activities like writing. I have a passion for writing and usually I write the rough draft just as ideas flow without framing it particularly even without checking grammer and spellings sometimes. Then I have to write around 4-5 drafts before calling it a final draft. If I start jonting down my ideas in a systematic manner in the first draft itself, proofread it in the begining it can reduce the rework timing to a great extent and increase productivity . It can also reduce reource ulitisation to a great extent bringing the total cost down as with Quality control at first draft will reduce my stationary supplies expenses. Thank you sir for a great insight!

Highly useful concept with the power to eliminate any rework and get the things correct in the very first place by checking quality at start and not at end. Real life simple example can be preparation of Kanda bhaji (Onion pakoda) , wherein we taste the batter before frying it and add ingredients (eg. Salt, Chilli powder, water, etc) if necessary so as to give a perfect taste. Here we are indirectly checking quality at source so as to get perfect output and no reworks :) Thank you!

"Quality at source" Woww.. great video! Inspiring experiment conducted by Sir Shrinivas. This method is very helpful in reducing the cost & time of production as It eliminates the expenses incurred on Quality check and also makes the production line more effective. This method ensures "zero defect" and increases productivity. This experiment debunks the myth of direct relationship between quality & cost as it clearly proved that it can be inverse too. Thanks for the lesson Sir!

Thank you sir of breaking the general misconception that quality is directly proportional to cost.

Understood the concept of Quality at source through a simple explanation mentioned in the above video wherein quality is increased with a decrease in cost by a simple change of checking the quality in the beginning itself instead of keeping it towards the end. Thank you Dr. G and team. Ashana - RBA

Sir, this is a great example of ensuring quality at source. As an intern who is responsible for developing business process for a e-learning platform which also includes human supply chain management i have now proposed the idea to the project lead that we should implement quality at source by taking the final decision about recruiting only after the new recruit's deliverables has been reviewed by quality checking team. It will be done in the period of a week after the new recruit joins. It will save us lot of time and frustration of hiring unsuitable candidate. It will even save the costs of salaries and trainings.

Even I was of the view that cost increases as we try to increase the quality. The video changed my views. Ensuring Quality at the source is the key. Thank you sir for this wonderful video.

This is really a very cool video which shows how time invested can be reduced when the quality is checked at the beginning of any process.😁
