Lil Kim had faced some trauma in her early life stemming from her dad and abusive relationships with men. She had her nose broken several times during an abusive relationship with one of her boyfriends and I think that may have started her on the path of changing the way she looked drastically. And there wasn't anything wrong with the way she looked outwardly, but inside was the issue. She needed to fix her broken ness from the inside.

Yes, I had to stop my son and mom from calling my daughter fat. They would argue like siblings do. I heard him call her fat once. I told him not to ever let me hear him say that again. I told him that he didn't know what other people outside our house were saying to her, and she shouldn't have to come home and be told the same thing. He never said it again. My mom used to say it when we were shopping. Oh, you are too fat for those, or you are too big to be wearing that. I had to correct her a couple times because she is older and really didn't mean any harm. I had to break it down to her, what she was doing to her self eestem. She finally got it. I had to build my daughter's self-confidence up. She wasn't fat or ugly. She just matured earlier than her classmates and tall for her age. She has long beautiful hair still to this day. I had to teach her a lot of the hate that could stem from jealousy.

Thanks Dr. Gary for recognizing the beauty in those of Afro descent. Far too often we hear Cosmetic surgeons degrade African features by saying they are abnormally bulbous, thick , or wide, when they are quite normal in certain ethnic groups. Nothing wrong with a little rhinoplasty, but not due to societal pressure to look less black.

Lil Kim was SO gorgeous, I was about 16- 17 when she blew up and she was a Goddess. She was an amazing rapper when , back then, there werent that many female rappers that got to break into it. She was extremely talented and gorgeous. It is so sad that she was made to feel like she needed anything done, especially so young it is so sad that some doctors could have stopped her by telling her (especially in her 30s, and excluding injuries) she did not need any other work because she was such a natural beauty. I feel like she had a lot going on emotionally for a long time and people around her that were not steering her in a healing direction. (But, if someone has dysmorphia, it is really a different issue than just being addicted (like someone is to getting more tattoos) so I would hope she has been able to get some type of psychological help for past traumas and if dysmorphia is involved, that too. This vid was more sad than the others because of her reasons and her getting a lot of surgery because of the women that she must have felt were more attractive..which they weren't- they just come a dime a dozen ..it just reminds me how bad being famous can be, always talked about, your looks and body rated, photographed, and picked apart at such a young age, plus fame, money, etc..its really unhealthy. Sorry this was such a novel..I just couldn't stop writing..(my ADHD helped w/that lol)

I was told indirectly and sometimes directly that looking the way I do is inherently ugly. My nose, lips, skin color, etc., but fortunately enough I was not in the limelight and I didn't have the money to access plastic surgery, so I was allowed to grow up and develop a better sense of self.

It’s actually not men’s fault because most cultural beauty standards are dictated by society and passed on promoted to daughters by those in the maternal hierarchy ie mothers, grandmothers and aunts. Beauty is a decidedly feminine asset. Men can be considered beautiful but, unlike his wallet, athleticism, or sexual prowess, it’s not a necessary component of or for masculinity or a mans overall value in the sexual market place. In fact a woman’s perceived beauty and value only becomes an asset for a man if/when she definitively becomes his woman. When a woman in any time period or culture is held up as a sex symbol or feminine ideal all the other women rush to emulate and or outdo her in order to gain an advantage over other women in the dating pool and increase their social value. But the actual what’s best is primarily dictated by and agreed upon by women. Think about it whose dad, or brother or uncle taught them how to fix their hair or put on their makeup? Who’s boyfriend /father/brother pics out their wedding dress? Prom dress? Breast implants? Nail salon? Waist trainer etc.They might pay but we pick

That’s where superficial requirements like “beauty” come into play.

It was a different time. If you were a black woman with fuller facial features people openly told you that you weren't as worthy or beautiful. I experienced it a lot. I tell my GenZ nieces it was a different time & before the age of social media where women's empowerment is prevalent. Lil Kim herself, Foxy Brown and Jada Pinkett were dark black women and everyone of all races loved the look of them. But it isn’t just the industry that praises lighter skin, it is the common person. The beautiful black Hispanic Amara La Negra talks about how her community hates on her skin colour, despite in my view being one of the most attractive women on the planet. But admittedly I am a white guy from the UK and I don’t have any personal experience in this, and it is really shameful about Lil Kim as I remember me and my friends in awe over her looks in the late 90s.
