DK TSUCHIYA & MAX ORIDO drives 600HP JZA80 Supra alongside the A90 SUPURA
New vs. Old Supra Showdown | Drift King Tsuchiya Keiichi and Max Orido tests the JZA80 Supra alongside the newest version | Vintage Times by Keiichi Tsuchiya
This time, Tsuchiya Keiichi's Vintage Times is featuring Manabu Orido, who is known as MAX ORIDO!
You already know that Orido has been with Tsuchiya for more than 20 years, so it is no exaggeration to say that he is the most disciple of Tsuchiya.
They compare A80 Supra and A90 Supra owned by Mr. Orido to get a closer look at the memories of those days and the differences between the old and new tastes.
According to Mr. Orido, he had never had a talk in a car with Mr. Tsuchiya, and it was refreshing.
As for the Supra, A70 Supra is the first generation in Japan, but the form of A90 Supra seems to retain the remnants of A80 Supra.
This time, we interviewed Mr. Orido's Supra comparing A80 Supra and A90 Supra!
Orido-san, Thank you very much !!

25:28 on. A very good point. There is a fine line between nostalgia and evolution. Some don't like the resemblance of the past but what is evolution if not a continuation, improvement over time? That sweet spot is hard to be in, but at least the Honda E, 400Z are good examples, making things right. If you were to make a different car, then don't let it bear their predecessor's name IMO.

When Tsuchiya-san said "There are things you only realize when you get older, you know. Speed isn't everything" I felt that 100 percent!! Actually, when I was a kid, I used to crave on high powered, 1k+ HP, straight 0-60 and top speed vehicles but as I grew older, I started to fall in love with lightweight track reliable cars like the EK9 Type R, BRZ/86, AE86, S15, Evos and Miatas. I do understand that every country or every community has their own cultures when it comes to automotive and I can respect that but for me, doing track days and keeping the car healthy are my thing nowadays. Power isn't always the solution (unless it is must like doing a hot lap world record or Pikes peak hill climbs). If there's a one thing that i really hate in this car culture nowadays is the bragging rights and you know, competing with other people (in a dissing way) for the clouts like "oh, Ur CaR iS sLoW, I'vE gOt A tHouSand HP on My SoupRa!! U cAn't cAtcH mE" thing and it's really annoying. Well, if it's really their own thing then there's nothing I can do with those people but ya know, in a way, they're gradually ruining the real essence of being a car enthusiast and we should preserve the genuine passion because not everyone are into this thing, only few ones. And to those ricers or rookies out there nowadays, let us educate them as much as possibly can about these things and introduce to them about the real essence of this culture!! That's all and have a great day ahead!!

I feel you bro. Outta all the cars I've owned, my AE86 was my favorite. One of the reasons why I picked up a CBR 600RR was to destroy 1000hp cars all the while knowing I spent a fraction of the cost. People these days are all about power instead of balance.
@Boostguru

I can agree. I had more fun in my near stock 350z going to track days and such, than I do in my current 1040hp MKIV. Even though the raw top end speed does tingle the senses, it doesn't do much outside of that so I'm actually thinking of detuning my Supra a bit for more balance. I also despise the clout crowd and social media in general minus youtube, so I steer way clear of all of that.

The thing about almost all 90s jdm cars and early 2000s ones was that they weren't particularly good looking straight off the factory floor. That's not to say they were bad, but their secret to success (apart from being over engineered) was that in their modest form they were a perfect base without being styled too aggressively such that the customer had a lot more freedom to modify and develop their own take. Not many modern day cars achieve this.. The new Nissan Z has done a very good job though in my opinion. I look forward to seeing modified versions of those Z's particularly modifications to the head lights.. bit of room to play there.. maybe even pop up headlights hehe.

Agreed, thats a big part of the appeal I find with most of these Japanese classics. You kind of make them your own, obviously it's a bit of a double edged sword as when these cars were cheap people did just that and made these cars terrible. But still even when most of these cars are appreciating in value I'd much rather see a modified example rather than someone who's just kept it stock because it might not be worth as much.

Yet now seeing the money toyota has made it seems they could have waited on the partnership and created a mk5 supra on their own like they are with the toyota corolla etc and it probablywould have did better withoutthe bmw partnership.
