(Update) After a year and a half, it finally had its chance on the track, here's the video of its first proper run: • The Drift Project Retu...
Hopefully you found this series helpful and, judging by the amount of views, you guys really enjoyed it. There will be no more build / upgrade videos on my TT01, only running videos from now on.
Thank you for your support of this series and of the channel. With the most viewed video on the channel being from this series, clearly the drifting side of RC is very popular. I just never expected that kind of support for the channel.

A good little trick for cutting tricky areas, is to use a body reamer to create a hole in your corners, that way you get a neat rounded hole that resist splitting, and you only need to cut to reach the hole, to get a nice corner, instead of trying to cut the corner.

Cool looking build I went old school American with my drift car and used a 69 Camaro body not very authentic but I like the muscle cars. I have never been a fan of this car but the details sell it cool car you got there.

Thank you. It's always good to see something different other than JDM stuff. American muscle always looks good on track. Glad you like the shell, but it has been retired now though. Got something completely different for the RWD chassis!

I'm going from a 200mm toyota supra MKIV to a 190mm mazda RX8 body and my wheels are 3mm offset up front and 9mm on the rear, I'm probably going to have to change out the rears to a 6mm maybe a 3mm to make them flush, nice video mate!
@RCProjects
@RCProjects 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. 9mm offset on a 190mm body is a bit extreme, unless you've got some insane camber. I would definitely knock that down to 6 or 3.

I really appreciate your support of the channel, I know you've been here a long time. I do like the Corolla 86 style but I'm more of a Nissan fan. If I really get into drifting then I'll probably get a RWD chassis from the likes of MST or similar. Then do a properly painted body, possibly with an engine bay and interior. Long way off though I think. Drift Project 2.0...

Yes we have a track that is not far from me in doors. It has three different tracks one isn't just for drifting the others for on road racing. I was told to get a yokomo D2 but not really sold on a rear wheel drive version for beginner
@RCProjects
@RCProjects 7 жыл бұрын
Good, having a local track is a great start. I agree with you that RWD for a beginner is not a good idea. Just start with a cheap 4WD RTR (HPI E10, Sprint 2, RS4 Sport 3) and see if you like it.

If you're just getting into drifting RC cars would you recommend this kid or start with something more advanced and bypass all the upgrades from the base kit
@RCProjects
@RCProjects 7 жыл бұрын
If your just getting into drifting, I would go for a good quality, cheap RTR setup. The biggest aspect of RC drifting is local support. If there's nowhere to go drifting locally, then you'll struggle to really get into the scene. I haven't once drifted this RC after I finished it because there's no tracks close by. It's just a shelf queen now which is a shame but it's still awesome to look at.

The wheel fitment is actually really good. It's a 200mm shell with 6mm offset wheels. I only want to add camber at the front hence the reason for getting adjustable offset wheels.

hi ! cool video. i have a few questions : What is the best rc touring car for rolling in the streets ? can you put a powerful brushless into a tamiya tt-02 without breaking the drivetrain ? and if not what upgrade is necessary to make it into a very fast and solid car ? thanks :)
@RCProjects
@RCProjects 8 жыл бұрын
Hi there, thanks for stopping by. I'll answer your questions in order: 1. I've only ever owned a TT01 and TL01. Both are touring style chassis' and I would recommend them both. TT01 more so for the street as the TL01 is intended for the rougher terrain. 2. Tamiya gears tend to be very durable. I've had the same gears in my TL01 since it was built and there's no signs of wear. As long as your not putting ridiculous amounts of power through the drivetrain, a brushless systems should be fine in a TT02. 3. To make a TT02 a solid RC, from an outside perspective having never owned one, look into some oil shocks. Most Tamiya kits are supplied with friction shocks, which are terrible. Replace the white plastic bushings with proper bearings too. That should get you started. A solid base from which to build if you want to. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.

No problem. I would advise asking others who have a TT02. They'll have a better perspective of that chassis and may suggest different upgrades that further improve the TT02, not just bearings and shocks.

where you got the intercooler and the exhaust tip the body and the Lights?
@RCProjects
@RCProjects 7 жыл бұрын
The body is no longer available. It got it about 10 years ago. The lights are from Yokomo for an R34 Skyline GTR (Modelsport.co.uk). There not perfect but good enough. The exhaust tip is from a body detail set made by HPI (Modelsport.co.uk) and the intercooler is from Team Raffee (AsiaTees.com, I will never buy from them again though!).
@Filmore1991

What did you use to cut off the lights, doors, trunk and hood? and whats the more easier way to cut without ruining the body?
@RCProjects
@RCProjects 7 жыл бұрын
This body came with the light buckets pre-installed. I took the old ones out and replaced them with better items. The doors, hood and trunk haven't been cut out. They are part of the body. In terms of cutting out a body, the best way I found was to score a line with a blade around the edge you want to cut. Then get a good pair of scissors and cut up to that line at regular intervals. You can then just bend and snap off those pieces with just a little sanding needed to get a smooth edge. I will be doing a tutorial video of this method during the Trail Project series.

i would love to get into the rc thing but they all seem to be well over €100 :(
@RCProjects
@RCProjects 8 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily, head to this link and sort by lowest price, there's nearly 3 pages of RCs under £100 (not sure about the € conversion though). Just look through and see what like the look of. Some of them are kits so you may have to buy extra components, but a lot of them are Ready-to-Run (RTR), which means that they have everything you need to start using them out of the box. www.modelsport.co.uk/?CategoryID=9900&SubCategoryID=990010&PageNo=1

why cut out the front lights
@RCProjects
@RCProjects 8 жыл бұрын
They were already cut out. The body had some headlights pre-installed but they didn't look great, hence the change to some better looking ones. I'm planning on putting some LEDs in there to give the illusion of headlight bulbs. There wont be lights though as I don't want to deal with the extra wires. It's already pretty cramped in there.

RCProjects pretty much the whole thing I love RCs but I don't have the time to build one from parts
@RCProjects
@RCProjects 7 жыл бұрын
Well this one didn't come like it is now. It was originally a standard Tamiya kit already built with a servo and motor. I got it from Ebay for £40 and that was all that it was worth. Almost all of the suspension components had stripped threads and most of the parts still had the plastic tags on from the parts tree. It was built very poorly and the body was only fit for the bin. I stripped the chassis down and over the last few years, have replaced nearly every part with stock or upgraded items. The body was purchased about 8 years ago, having been specially ordered by a Hobby shop. That body no longer exists now. So yeah, it's been a bit of a journey. RCs like this aren't available in kit form. Only by spending time and a lot of money (£700 is my guess) do you get something like this. A stock TT01 kit costs about £150, but that's without a transmitter/receiver, battery /charger, servo and paint for the body. www.modelsport.co.uk/rc-electric-models/rc-car-categories/9900/990010&ManufacturerID=53&ChassisID=431 To get something similar to a TT01 in premade/RTR (ready-to-run) form, you'll be looking at something from this list: www.modelsport.co.uk/rc-electric-models/rc-car-categories/9900/990010&MSAttributeID[82]=5&MSAttributeID[88]=506&MSAttributeID[86]=252&MSAttributeID[5]=520&MSAttributeID[6]=517 I hope you find an RC that suites your needs. Thanks for watching.
