What’s with all the zip ties on the boom tube?

The zip ties are what's holding the boom together Chris. It cracked coming out of a loop. They're holding the wiring for the strobe lights. I've yet to figure a way to get them inside the boom without drilling into it. I hate drilling holes in aircraft. However, it does look tacky as hell. I may eventually do it. Do me a favor & answer this....did this video look "fuzzy" to you (unclear)? It did on my tablet. It used to be crystal clear. Thanks!

John Willard ....Many thanks John! I've flown a variety of ultralights but for sheer fun, nothing compares to a Drifter!....as you well know! My favorite is getting above a cloud layer on a beautiful day & just absorb it all. Refreshes & clears the mind of the world's problems! Thanks again to all of you. FYI: the toughest part of the video was the drone shot opening. Had to shoot it over & over. It was worth it.

John Willard ....Many thanks John! I was viewing the original video the other day & after seeing it, I wish I had added the loop at full speed after the slo-mo version. Would've been neat. pilotgil .....Many thanks PilotGil. Yeah, I like the simplicity if a 503 but do wish at times for the hp of a 582, especially when I get the loop urge. Glad you enjoyed it. Pass it along to your pals! Fly safe! Florida huh? Try Florida in the summer! Yuck City! :)

Thanks Doc! Really appreciate all of you guys comments. Even the occassional bad ones I like! Adds a touch of controversy! Ha! Ha! Tampa huh? You guys have a great Cancer hospital there. My wife was cured about 10 years ago by a Dr. Tegeraddi and his team. (Spelled like it sounds). Hope you have at least a 582 on your float equipped Drifter though I'm sure a 503 would work with a single pilot. Watch those gear locks if your using Full Lotus! Had one drop on me, cartwheeled at 45 mph on water. Take care Doc. Drop by & meet some crazy people sometime at 2JO.

@@billcallahan9303 Sweet, can't wait to watch them!!! We bought a new 582 from Lockwood to put on it. It came with a 618 and you probably know they are a little hard to find parts for. Looked into going with a 670 from Rotax Rick but after flying with Jeff hudson we didn't really see the need in all that extra power. Ours doesn't have flaps but thinking about adding the conversion before wrapping the wing, your thoughts? Need them with floats or no big deal?

Thanks for the comment RT. The 582 Maxair will cruise about 65, the 503 about 55. I like the 503 better because of the simplicity in maintaining the motor. No anti-freeze, no hoses, no water pump, no radiator, no watertight case, no special seals, gears etc. The only thing I didn't like about the airplane itself is that it takes 3 people to take the one piece wing off. One on each wing tip, one in the middle, preferably two in the middle to hand the wing up to the top guy. Other than that, one of the funnest aircraft you'll ever own! Good luck! A used one is hard to find.

Chuck, thank you for the compliments & for watching. I wonder what KZbin did with my first one "Drifter Flying?" Anywho, you can fly a Drifter anywhere you like. My longest one was back in '95 when I moved from Baton Rouge to the coast south of Tallahassee, Florida. Very roughly 300 miles. I carried spare fuel and made one beach landing near Navarre, FL to refuel. But a gal from Oregon flew her 503 powered Drifter from there to Sun n' Fun in Lakeland, FL. So, if a girl can do it? I carried spare fuel, food, drink, tools etc. (just in case). Today with cell phones, help is just a call away! Not a problem mon! So go for it! Thanks again! Dear Professor! I just played it myself from before to after the 9:23 point. Worked okay but the video quality of that old Hi8 tape conversion to digital looks worse on here than it used to? Don't know why but nothing is wrong on my end with 9:23. So I don't know? But thanks for watching!

Professor! It took me TWO MONTHS to figure out what the hell you were talking about! Talk about slow! My brain is 70 years old but that's no excuse! What threw me was there was nothing at 9:23 but water nearby.....BUT......a few second later was Heidi on her 21st birthday! Would you believe she DID have a bikini bottom on! It was the width of a piece of string. If you look closely at her hip you'll see a string holding up a bikini bottom the size of an old 50 cent piece. She put heart & soul into that shot! Sand all in her hair. The girl holding the reflector could never get it right to shine sunlight back into her face so that's why her face is darker. Hey, if the model is willing to get down & dirty, I go with 'em! New video titled Drifter girls coming up shortly.
