These were really fun to shoot, Tanner, Pat, and I are 3 very different drivers and have been wanting to share our perspectives and chat out loud about drifting. For our first show we jump right into it and chat about competition drifting from a shoot out events, to normal tire classes, and all sorts of comp drifting. We also go off topic and banter about running doors, pissing people off, and how much we love drifting!
Be sure to follow this playlist for more shows in the future!
Give us some feedback good or bad, we are all very new to this and will take everything into consideration.

There is a grass roots racing series, in Sweden i think, where all the cars look junk because a rule is that any competitor can buy your car at any time for a fixed amount. Think it was like 2kish (but that was back 15 yrs or more ago) So you can do whatever you want to your car (within the rules) but if you spend on nice parts, someone will just buy your car and sell them.. It keeps the costs super low and makes the focus more about driving.. Would love to see something more like that.. too many people worried about what the cars look like and expensive parts and building more extreme builds and power. Something like the recent LZsuri.. same or similar cars, same or similar tyres, and each car dyno'd to be roughly equal power bands. And if any get too nice, they are xxxx (what 10k these days? for a ready to drift matsuri/missile with nothing fancy) and anyone can buy your car out from under you.

As an outsider who doesn't drift but watches everything I can. I dont get how the smaller events don't promote more. When it's the day of the event and your last social media post was a week ago, that's a problem. Make a photo for each driver registered for the event promoting the event. Simplest thing I can think of. Each driver posts their photo on their socials. Someting is better then nothing.

Also we switched to 235’s on one of the team cars and went FASTER on the bank than we did on a 265 in the small engine car that makes 450. It costs more each day to run 235 unlimited though. We used twice as many tires. But, the clutch, diff, axles, are never going to break. A 235 valino would have lasted a lot longer than the mega sticky Zeknova we used.

My view on the drivers briefing discussion about 59:30 into the. I judged several events in Slovenia this year and always made sure to be very precise in the briefing on what to do and how do drive each section. To be able to do that I always drove the layout prior to the competition and put out videos in advance - always with GPS data and a comment list on what to setup for. And I do two briefings - before the first practice where we do also a track walk - me explaining where to go, how to transition, where it will get tight in battles... Problem being - only about 5% of the drivers really listen, let alone formulate any questions which would help them understand what to do. As I have been judging for 13 years by now I since years know that making briefings before battles absolutly makes sence -thing is that before the event as a judge its hard to exactly predict how the drivers will drive the track and especially how the battles will go. You can estimate about 90%, but the rest not really. So another briefing before battles makes sence - its also important that it happens in such timing that drivers allready did battle practice so that we can get the references needed - but also still before going directly into battles so that there is still some practice time left. However again - only a limited ammount of people really listen. As for informing the public on what details the judges will be looking - I absolutly agree on that. But its not really easy to make it happen - the announcer has to be on the briefing, has to be very knowledgable to be able to understand the details and he also needs to be able to bring it across to the public - a difficult task - we werent able to really properly make it happen until now. Also hearding cats is how I would describe doing a track walk with the drivers here.

Marketing for drifting is dismal. If you're not in the know you'll never know bc there's only private fb groups and websites you're not going to know to look up. If you want the sport to grow to a point where big money brands are coming in and people can actually make a living doing it you gotta get a team together to market events and get people involved. Look at monster jam, they run adds, billboards, flyers etc. There was drifting less than 2hrs away from me for 15 years and I had no idea! I'm out clutch kicking around turns and sliding circles around goons in parking lots pissing everyone off when I could have been going ham on a track. It's frustrating and disappointing the lack of marketing and exposure the sport gets. Another thing is you have to get the fan girls out of judging, you can't have emotions and favoritism in a booth making decisions on who moves on. Keep it fair, consistent, and understand closing speeds.

@chelseadenofa of course, and that's what eventually makes angle kits and suspension affordable for the rest of us. Ultimately, if there is money to be spent, it will go somewhere, so caping tires might solve it a bit but not 100%

Another topic I would say that is totaly missing is having a workshop with judges and drivers on what is good in drifting. The way the judges understand drifting totaly defines the competitions and even driving styles in a series / country (we are very small here). And I never get approached by the drivers here. Or even get asked on what my logic is and what I see as skill in drifting really is - and I drive most of the driftdays here. Also I drive my car in the practice sessions of the events we do here - I do twins with a lot of the guys during practice sessions - partially because I love driving and partially to have a clear picture what works and what not and what is relevant in battles / or even qually. Again this sometimes can change my view on things that I thought would work one way during the briefing and how they really work and how I should judge that. And what I sometimes find in the disscussions after events is just how much some drives rate some small aspects of the runs as very important and on my view of the judging it might only be 10% of the overally picture. So most of the run can be completly meh, but entry was crazy good. Drivers usually think that they get underscored, but in reality they only did 10% of the run well and 90% was basicly shit - if they would tone down the entry and concentrate more on the overall run the score would be much higher - this point is very difficult to bring across. On a side note - being a judge is often a very unsatisfactory thing to do. Always someone will be pissed at you, always you will be accused of favouritisms and many times I also question myself if the call was really right or if it would not be better to have called and OMT. BTW: we almost never run same layouts so its always a bit different so I cant really go on old experiance.
@CatDaddyTuning
@CatDaddyTuning 10 ай бұрын
Because everyone on earth views the big entry as the key thing to a good run. I talk to so many spectators and brand new fans and people rank the committed entry as the most important and coolest part. Judge accordingly don’t be an FD repeat and bore everyone.

"keep drifting fun." Lead driver should be judged in the same way someone would drift with friends, lead's sole responsibility is setting the route for the best run possible for both drivers. If they drive away they are not doing that. Even in assetto you can tell good leads from bad easily, even more when its real. I only tuned in for Denofa's champ push these past years, was at the first event in atlanta, never missed a year until the tire /weight rule which enforced the "this tire is better"even more as before you at least had the option to go wider if you got stuck if a noncompetitive brand as a sponsor. Idk, maybe i'm just too old to really care where the future goes and no one listens anyway unless they take stock hits.

25L48 The Valino 08C is 300 treadwear. He's saying they're way faster than the Nittos? How many laps compared to the Nittos? Cause I had Valino 08D which is 360TW and did close to 70 laps on another track in my NA BMW E46. I was very satisfied with the durability and logevity of the tire. The 08C should be close to the same I guess? Anyways, the point he was making is that the Valino 08C is a crazier tire compared to the Nitto but the 08C is only 300tw. Is the difference that big in traction? Or did he meant the 200TW Valino which is the 08R. I reckon the rulebook of the 235 class only permits 300tw tires because there's even lower tw tires like the Valino 08RS in 160TW which would be much faster and kinda ruin the point of the 235 class.
