Thanks Chris! I bought the O'Brien jig a year or so ago, but the Elevate sure looks cool. Definitely less bulky than the O'Brien but the O'Brien seems to have one advantage in that it dials in the neck angle (i.e. your 88.5 degrees) based on the geometry of the guitar body. The Elevate also looked scary when you clamped it onto the body to do the mortise -- seems like it'd be easy to ether be too loose (and risk it slipping) or too tight (and risk damaging the top). Plus your fingers so close to the spinning router bit was giving me the cringes. 🙂

It's great to see this build progressing! That jig looks incredibly useful. It took me way longer than I'd like to admit to line up the neck on my acoustic build.

Awesome video which shows how this jig works very well (I've been curious for a while). Are you also planning a before video of how you cut your 88.5 angle and an after video for neck fitting / joint tweaking. That would be the winner!

He said he would explain the slightly deeper channel he routed next to the tenon at the end? Did I miss it? I believe he said it helped with fitting the neck on. Maybe it keeps the neck from rocking side to side?
@ggergg6423 Жыл бұрын
I believe he did that to make the neck fitting easier as it enables flossing(sanding) of the remaining(proud) wood in the area that was recessed much simpler. If you try to floss that area without a recessed section then the sandpaper has to get tight with the tenon which never works as planned.....ask me how I know....lol

I bought one of these after watching this video. $300 later, I got the jig, router bit and alignment bar. I routed the neck fine but when I got to the body, the bearing on the router bit failed and caused the bit to gouge up the jig. The owner said he would send me a new bit but to just bondo the jig and the joint should be o.k. He offered to sell me the jig portion for another $125. Just my experience. I wont buy from them again.

Who is Philips? The Phillips screw is named for Portland businessman Henry F. Phillips, who patented it a few years after founding the Phillips Screw Company - but although Phillips refined the new screw's design, the idea didn't originate with him.

So how are these considered handmade guitar building when your using this stuff, Saying handmade guitars is a lie and no difference in the way Taylor builds there guitars, Handmade my ass lol.
@dalgguitars Жыл бұрын
Chris builds and voices each and every guitar differently according to the customer's needs and wants. Also, Taylor doesn't do the stunning inlay work he does. (by hand) This is probably not the KZbin channel for you.

@@dalgguitars regardless of what you are saying it's still not handmade get real.And I'll decide what channel I watch definitely you won't decide.

@@markstaggs7342 This begs the question, how would you define "hand made" guitars?
@markstaggs7342 Жыл бұрын
@@dalgguitars If your saying inlay work by hand Taylor and Martin will do inlay work if you want to pay the cost,And if someone claims they make guitars by hand and use the same power equipment as the manufactured guitar builders use I don't see how you can claim handmade, Handmade is handmade and those claim built handmade want a huge big dollar for a lie.Your not that stupid you know damn well what I'm talking about.Inlay work can be done by any guitar company if you want to spend the money ,Get real and stop the bullshit lies about saying there handmade some people might believe this B.S.
