Some people are really dull saying oh buy hammer drill bla bla. If you only need to drill couple of holes into the concrete and you only have an impact driver, why would you buy a second device? I think for a DIYer or a house owner who only needs to use it less frequently impact is the best all rounder, and it is smaller. Obviously if this is your profession, you'd already have all of the different types of drivers/drills.
@maskenmakkan
@maskenmakkan Жыл бұрын
@@The.Toaster Wrong, the impact driver has much more torque and is a great all-rounder. You can even buy adjustable chucks to put in the impact driver. Impact driver is not used for nuts and bolts, that is called an impact WRENCH. Get your facts straight buddy.
@maskenmakkan
@maskenmakkan Жыл бұрын
@@The.Toaster Lmao, if you work with repairing rc vehicles you need to shut it, as i said the impact is great for diyer and has multiple uses, yes it uses a hex shank and there is a lot of different attachments to it. Hole-saw hex, drill hex, nut hex etc. A combi drill will never get the same torque nor speed. Dont talk about things you dont know buddy, I work in mechanical engineering so dont fool yourself. LOL.
@enmodo

@@maskenmakkan I completely agree. I used a regular drill / driver for years and finally broken down and got an impact driver. It's like night and day for driving screws - days of stripped heads and sheared screws are all behind me as it drives 3 or 4 inch screws through wood like butter. But I've also had a lot of luck using it with an adapter to utilize my regular sockets.

Impact function isn’t in play much at all. Functioning like a regular drill. Will work fine on softer masonry but will burn up the bits due to friction on harder masonry. Hammer drill chips away as it drills and the heat is much less. Thanks for the demonstration.
@AnunnakiAaron
@AnunnakiAaron 4 жыл бұрын
its because impact drivers apply their "impact" rotationally, not back and forth like a hammer drill. Hammer drills plunge in and out, which is really how masonry bits are designed to work. Just rotating a masonry bit is going to dull it. Masonry bits will work with the impact driver, for a little while, but it wont be long before its dull.

Really appreciate this post. Never heard of these bits. These tool combinations have application specific uses but the laws of physics and mechanics still cannot be defied. Least not by mortals. I'd enjoy having these bits, the screwdrivers and a nice impact on a cable/conduit run where there's fastening to timber and concrete on the same run. Yet ever so often, part-way into a block there is a vein of something (flint, granite? Of course you'd know if it was rebar) that just ignores this type of drilling and bits. After some choice language one would have to climb down for the trusted old corded hammer and have it pulverize the dickens out of that tough spot!

So, does the ordinary accu drill go faster through the wood or concrete, compared to accu impact driver? What's the benefit of the drill over the impact driver when you compare them in drilling mode? Not talking about driving screws, that's obvious.

So do we need anything other than an impact driver for all jobs!! If your a home diy’er these hex would be great for your impact. I’ve got 3 different dewalt drills I already have a custom chuck from an old dewalt drill converted into hex any chuck can be customised!! Now I feel I should get rid of all my drills and buff my brushless impact driver with hex bits for all jobs if your doing jobs at home this would be perfect but bigger jobs would need bigger tools?? I will think about what I want to do great video cheers ❤

I think they key things you need as a DIYer are an impact driver and an SDS drill. The impact is fine for most things but for tough masonry and concrete you will burn out this type of bit if you aren’t careful. It will get you out of a bind though.

@WheresMyPencilUK If you are drilling into a wall/concrete/brick every once in a while for putting a hanger or something And you mostly fasten screws into furniture/ikea stuff I guess impact would be best, yes the bit will go bad, and the impacts life might take a hit, but this way you get a tool that is the same as hammerhead drill, while being lighter and more compact no? I'm just trying to make a sense of all of these different types of drills, I need a 20v either milwaukee or bosch - either thinking to buy 1 tool to do it all like the one with hammerhead function (jack of trades) or just an impact and a separate drill (without hammerhead function) and relying on bits for masonry stuff every now and then
@WheresMyPencilUK
@WheresMyPencilUK Жыл бұрын
An impact drill will not give the same function as a hammer drill as the impact is in a twisting action in the direction of rotation not a forwards impact. Therefore an impact driver will only give the same level of drilling capability as a non hammer drill. They are better for installing fasteners though due to greater torque. As I’ve said if it were me I’d get an impact and an SDS drill.

Because the packaging says 'impact' doesn't mean it's for impact driver, it most likely means it supports impacts from a drill (hammer drill, which can also have hex adapter and those bits gets more convenient when you do need to switch often with a single device between drilling and driving screws)

good review. surprised it struggled with wood. Maybe you dulled the 8mm by drilling the concrete for too long and made the bit get too hot? Anyhow, I haven't tried these. Maybe i was using cheap Black & Decker drill bits. I will order some expensive ones and see if it works. I understand Combi drills mainly works well on wood etc.. but they also advertise it can be used on hard walls too such to drill on a partition wall to hung a pic for example.

Most people just use what's at hand, an old Steele drill bit will go through wood or brick, you don't need hammer action for that. Most people only ever drill a few holes in thing's, they aren't doing it for a job so if it takes 5minutes to drill a hole then that's ok for them. All my equipment is aeg, I've got drills impact drivers, sds drills. I have 100 of drill bits of all shapes and sizes and flat drill bits for cutting holes in wood etc etc. Most of which is never used, because I normally go overboard when I need something or think I'll need it

These bits make no sense when drilling concrete the impact is the most important part. What a hammer drill or preferably a rotary hammer does is makes the bit impact the surface causing a chip then the drill head digs into that chip. What your impact is doing is not the same the impact is entirely rotational you would probably get through faster with a titanium bit with a pilot head. All this bit will do is lead to premature failure of your impact driver I suggest you invest in a rotary hammer if you look to drill concrete even hammer drills aren't very effective at impacting they just use ratchet drives to create vibration more so then actual hammering.
@zack6892
@zack6892 5 жыл бұрын
I understand the appeal of an on hand solution for concrete drilling that saves you from switching tools but sustained high rpm with heavy drag mixed with concrete sediment will just lead to burning up your drill and of course manufactures will say it's fine they are the ones who get to sell you the replacement. You would be better served running Bosch diamond speed bits they will eat through small jobs like this and actually self feed not put all the stress on your brushless motor.

great video +1 and yeah you can, of course, you an impact driver as a drill into hard stone material, at least to some extent,. and you around the same level as a combi drill hence hammer-effect or vibrato effect. and SDS rotary drill takes it quite a step further.

Most people who dabble with diy are more likely to have a drill not an impact driver so abit pointless. Impact drivers are not for drilling

Oh man, this is the type of drill bit you use when your time is worth less than your money, spare yourself and just buy a friggin hammer drill. This bit is demonstrably very slow, and will wear down with heat and friction because of the very high RPM that an impact driver produces. If you absolutely must drill one single very important hole in the span of your entire life, then *maybe* this bit would be worthwhile, assuming you'd never use it again. If you're a DIYer, honestly get a hammer drill before you get an impact driver. It will do all the things an impact driver does, plus actually being able to drill holes into masonry in decent time.

Why do the bits say “for use in impact drivers and combi drills” on them then?

most impact driver makers offer hex drill bits for drilling using the impact driver... its not ideal, but for light use like your every day home projects it should be fine for those who don't want two tools...

Dewalt impacts just suck ass. Them things get hotter than any other brand and fail constantly. I would just drill through the mortar instead of the brick itself.

We use all Dewalt and have loved all of their tools. We have the impact driver, drill, chainsaw, circular saw, small circular saw, reciprocating saw and a flashlight!
