Looks like very good performed inspection. Should get some better equipment for end area inspection, but quality of inspection looks top notch!

Nicely done. I worked for a company based in se Asia. And now that are in Australia. Fuck they suck. They were shit in Asia and still shit here. Half of the time they don’t even test just spray particles on the tools, paint white and send out

Why there is a need of Grinding wheel on roots of connection ???
@becksari17 жыл бұрын
It's a soft wheel and basically used for "thread repairing" - it's used to repair the threads that normally need to be recuted - it's a huge chance to save them (the operation is made after we make sure there is no crack hiden on the threads). Regards

But, most of the proprietary connection are not allowed to grind or repair with these soft wheels as it might damage the profile and even bring sometimes changes in the dimension of flank. And most proprietary connection are machined as per their machine shop given dimensions and gauging.

Yes, you are right (theoretically). But these "repairs" are special cases (it's something that I do extra to save the life of a joint). All these operations are strictly checked before, during and after "repairing" - gouging, dimensional, etc. And all of this are made with customer approval - we made this for minimum 10 years and we have satisfactory results (we manage to save more than 75% of the threads). Also it increase the life of the connection (imagine the cold work process in a small scale - manual made by experienced professional inspectors - need to be highly skilled in manipulation the grinder). I know that most of the manufacturer don't recommend to manual repair (mainly because it;s in their purpose to sell new pipes, or make them-self the repair) and make more money and most especially they want to cover their ass. But as you know not all drilling are made in hard condition, and with customer approval you can save and/or increase the life of a thread only by simple passing of a soft wheel - taking of the inclusions, making the profile to be in acceptable range (don't need to make it new). For more details I can send you by email some pictures/videos. ps: all the "saved"threads have a safety return from rig of 100% (none return with improper make-up, leak, loosing, crack, etc).

Thanks for your enlightenment on these topics , and i totally agree with your concern for the life and tubular management, but the drilling conditions mostly are under harsh environment and such manipulation if not done in correct manner will lead to improper torquing or will not retain its original make-up torque (theoretically) , by the way if it's done by the skilled personals , then its good to go. Hey, by the way it was good to have such a technical discussion with you . Hope you would be from operations and your Inspection is high class standard, Industry needs such Inspection team only if they don't push too much to Inspectors.
