Hello Bob, if I'm looking forward to sharpening endmills and tap drills, do you know if this machine helps me do that?

The good: This machine does a nice job of sharpening. The bad: The machine is expensive and it takes a bit of practice to get the setup right. Once set it can sharpen a lot of drills fairly quickly.

I played with the end mill sharpening a bit. It will work but it takes a lot of careful set up to get it right. At the time I was testing this I got a surface grinder and I can sharpen end mills a lot easier with the surface grinder.

Bob I just purchased a used 82R and I am converting it to a 82B I ordered most of the stuff to convert it put one thing I need is the height of the riser block under the 82B motor I will need to machine a spacer to raise it to the correct height Is it possible for you to measure your riser block on you machine and let me know Thanks Larry

The riser block is 1.050" high from the bottom of the recess under the motor to the bottom of the motor at it's lowest point. The block is 2" long (parallel to the axis of the motor) and 2.8" wide.

Bob Thanks for taking the time to measure the riser block for me So here is what I come up with Assuming that the saddles are the same between the two riser blocks and my 82R block is .750 total height. I come up with a block for the 82B total height to be 1.375 Can you confirm that your block has a total height of 1.375 or close to that I know it may be hard to measure What I will be doing is just adding a block under the original one to bring it up to the correct height Thanks Larry

@@larryolund5544 My block is not flat on top, it angles up from the outside to the point it meets the motor. As best as I can measure it looks to be about 1.4" from the bottom of the recess to the topmost part of the block. Maybe you could make it a bit tall and trim to fit?

@@OldIronLover Thanks for the reply Yes my original also has a rounded recess and I will be using that to contact the motor with the addition of a riser block underneath All machining is done and I have a total rise of 1.375 from the bottom of the two blocks to the top of the original block Very close to what you have I think this will work Thanks Larry

When you used the TDR 82B to sharpen larger drill bits you change to the 82-B-8260-P or the 82-B-8290-P grinding wheel to give you the correct geometry. When you are sharpening small drills you use the 80-M-7370-P grinding wheel.

Is there a provision to dress the wheel or is it not necessary?
@OldIronLover

For drill sharpening it is not necessary to dress the wheel. After a bit of use it will develop a bevel on the ID of the wheel. There is a dressing attachment that you use to dress a wheel for point splitting and end mill sharpening if you have these optional accessories. I hope to get a video up on point splitting in the not too distant future, followed by an end mill video.
