Peter could you take us through the engineering analysis for the wing spar design a bit more? Those bolts in some combination of tension and shear? Inspection panels designed to be able to inspect bolts for corrosion? I know that spar design is on the minds of a lot of plane owners and operators in general - and potential Raptor customers in light of the recent PA28R accident in DAB. What's the failure mode for one or more bolts? Whats the ultimate load factor for that spar design? Thanks - B

It always baffled me seeing planes with big beefy engines held on to the airframe by a few tubes and like 4 bolts. I guess it works well, but its nice to see some extra heft added to the mounting brackets.

Good work, Is there another alternative to carbon fiber, because it is prohibited to import it in Egypt ? Does the regular Fiber fit as an alternative ?

Your great at Solidworks. If you have an nVidia video card, you might be able to force a little more anti-aliasing on Solidworks. It may slow things down a bit. Also, in most CAD/Design, you don't need much/any anisotropic filtering, as the only textures you likely have are applied to the engine. CAD users who are not working on buildings usually look: at, but: not along surfaces, so anisotropic filtering can be lowered, and antialiasing can be increased. A nice big 4K monitor, even a cheap one might be nice, as well, like the LG 43UD79-B-except if you work in the corners of the monitor.

Got the 4k tv already. The screen capture I use brings image quality down quite a bit so it doesn't look that great in the videos.

Would it be possible for the production version to have the wings removeable? Over here covered parking space is a premium and size plays a major role in priceing. The ability to store the wings along can be a great long term saver.

It will be no simple job to attach the wings every time you want to fly. Definitely not something I would want to do.

Suremn not realy something for people flying on a daily base, which I am not. Depending on the airfield, the difference can be several hundred Euro *per month* so it's definitly something to look into. And making the design in a way that the wing part can be detatched with acceptable effort (not talking glider easy) would be a great plus to buyers/builder in more expensive areas of the world.
@RaptorAircraft
@RaptorAircraft 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, probably not going to happen. If you are fortunate enough to have a Raptor and it's only flown once a month or less than would be a waste.

So the Raptor is only ment for rich elite customers? No need to look down on people living in a place with different constrains.

While not disputing your point that being able to remove the wings would be less expensive, I think many of us future owners would say that having a Raptor with several shares and group ownership would make more sense - the plane would be flown and used and everyone would enjoy lower cost of operations. I'm not rich and that's the way I plan to go. Besides, then I get the advantage of a bunch of folks that I can hang with that love my plane as much as I do.

Will you have some bonded aluminium backing plates where the wing bolts go through the spar? For the wing spar and main spar?
@RaptorAircraft
@RaptorAircraft 6 жыл бұрын
No need, there are stainless sleeves and the hard points in the spars are FR4. FEA has been done and it's all good.

Wow, really coming together. Is it possible to adjust the wing incidence at all to compensate for build tolerances or do all your fancy jigs and molds make that unnecessary?
@RaptorAircraft
@RaptorAircraft 6 жыл бұрын
It's not necessary because everything aligns as intended.

Looking great!! Are you planning on bonding those spars together or are the bolts alone enough to bear the load on the wings?
@RaptorAircraft
@RaptorAircraft 6 жыл бұрын
Just the bolts plus one more in the adjoining forward ribs. The wings are removable and therefore are not bonded on.

Raptor Aircraft can I have a couple more bolts on mine please? I trust your calculations but only 2 or 3 bolts per side gives me the willies.
@RaptorAircraft
@RaptorAircraft 6 жыл бұрын
More than 3 bolts is actually worse as it creates loads that create problems, at least that's what I understand from Mark. This is not his first FEA.

Are there only 2 bolts holding each wing half on to the main spar?
@RaptorAircraft
@RaptorAircraft 6 жыл бұрын
There's a third that joins the front edges of the adjoining ribs together that hasn't been done yet. That's all that's needed.

This may be an unusual request. As an aviation enthusiast and an idle KZbinr, would it be too much to remove all your videos from the Internet, rearrange them all in chronological order and title each episode with sequence numbering and, then, replace to the 'net'. The KZbin process doesn't lend itself to having things in order, unfortunately, but with the numbered titles we should become less frustrated. I hope that I'm not alone in making this suggestion.
@RaptorAircraft
@RaptorAircraft 6 жыл бұрын
Sorry, that's WAY too much work. If you Google playing videos in order you will see there is a way on KZbin to sort videos by date added. Then just play one after the other.
