I recently did this with an early model 1850 metering block i got for cheap to practice on, this particular block didnt have the pressed in brass IFR restrictor, so a .090 hole was present. I drilled all the way through with a 7/64(similar to #36) drill bit using a pin vice for better control, then used a 6-32 plug tap, a bottom tap is prefered, but its all i could find locally. I tapped the hole just a thread or two at a time to set the correct depth, i did the same with the .046 PVCR hole, starting off with a 1/16 drill bit and worked my way up to the 7/64 drill bit. I tapped the hole, again, a thread or two at a time to set the correct depth, used 6-32 x 3/16 brass set screws for easy drilling the hole sized needed for AFR calibration, all went extremely well and used a 1/16 hex key for the fore mentioned set screws, figure next time, i'll use 8-32 for the PVCR holes.

Thats exactly what I did when I built my carburetor for my turbo build. Eventually I upgraded to a billet block because I needed larger fuel wells but for the most part a basic metering block worked fine.

How do you get any shavings out of the main well that may get in there during the drill and tap process? Didnt look like the plugs were removed.

Thanks for posting your videos. In this one, I applaud you for knowing to keep the IFR submerged in the metering block "wet" portion. It escapes me why most aftermarket billet blocks want to put the IFRs *only* in the upper gas part of the chamber. And there is already an air bleed for that chamber, so what are they thinking??

I think its because if you move it to the top, you can go larger on the IFR because the bleed screw will be bigger. Most carbs dont need the added size, but if you go E85 or alcohol, you will need the larger bleed

Idle circuit requires a pullover so the bowls don't drain empty after shutoff - it honestly doesn't matter where the restrictor is, as long as it has one. Sizing is whats important, as thats what dictates transfer slot delivery.

Hi, great video. I’d like to hear more about the relationship of the IFR and the air bleed that you mention at 1:50. From what I have learnt from your videos I feel like I have my IFR’s perfect. But if I’m cruising on flat road at 60km/h (37 mph) then gra

Sorry, sent it before I was finished. Steady cruising at 60km/h flat road, afr’s perfect on gauge. But if I gently lean on the pedal a bit more to get to 70 or 80 (43-49 mph) it swings very lean for 3 to 4 seconds. I’m not accelerating hard enough to get much squirt form the accelerator pump, so I was thinking I need to get my mains in earlier, maybe by trying a down leg booster. But your comment there made me think Could that be something I need to look at

It very well might. Ill have a dedicated video on it but basically, larger air bleeds airate the fuel to make it lighter so it passed through easier and the IFR controls volume so by increasing both, it should speed up the circuit. Also, booster design wont affect idle or transition.

If your like me and have hands that shake like you've had way to much coffee, get a cheap bench mount drill press. It will save your sanity on so many projects.

Better looking work space. Still need a white background on work space. You are doing a fine job so don’t take anything I say as negative ok. Have you ever listened to one of you tips? It would be easier to learn from you if you stopped and took a breath every so often like just after you made a point. It will give the listener ME so time to digest what you are trying to teach me. Other than that keep up the good work. Happy Thanksgiving Mike

Hahahah, Bench space is MUCH cleaner than mine and I'm over here listening on 1.25x. 😂

I've gotten that comment several times before and basically I need to talk that fast to keep the person listening on youtube. On my older videos I used to talk slower and watch time was taking a nose dive, now watch time is pretty flat. I figure you can slow down the video to set the pace better in the settings though so you still have that!

@@NightWrencher Bahahahaha Ur a funny guy!!! I did get a free 90 amp flux core and 295 amp AC/DC stick welder from my In-Law. Both needed a little repair but work great now. I'm a fiddler. 😝
