Learn the Isolated and Integrated Approaches to mastering your double flips. Doubles are one of the most foundational tricks to learn and open all kinds of doors in technical and flow styles as well as being extremely useful for passing. Too often juggler's practice suffers because they haven't taken the time to master this essential skill.
In addition to teaching you doubles, this tutorial also intends to teach you the methods I've used to learn numerous cascade style patterns. The Isolated and Integrated approaches are two different methods to learning tricks that I've found work best in conjunction with one. The Isolated Approach focuses exclusively on developing the new raw skill while the Integrated Approach uses those skills and works from a base juggling pattern to learn transitions into and out of the new pattern to develop a more thorough form of mastery.
The Isolated Approach is great for building foundational skills, troubleshooting sticking points and rapid success in a narrow way.
The Integrated Approach is great for building strength & resilience in your patterns, developing transitions, learning related variations and overall comprehensive success with the new skill. The Integrated Approach can be summarized with the following milestones that can be supported by returning to the Isolated Approach:
Integrated Approach Milestones
1/3 - "Tennis Style"
1/2 - "Half Shower Style"
2/3 - "Reverse Tennis Style"
3/3 - "Cascade Style"

I never thought about using a half shower for doubles. This will help a lot

I hope so! It’s a key step for almost any cascade pattern I learn. I always ask myself “If I can’t do it on just one side, why would I think I can do it better on both sides?” It’s not always literally true because it is sometimes easier to do both sides rhythmically, but it makes for a more thorough practice and opens up other possibilities and flexibility with the pattern.

Really appreciate the drills. I am working towards four club fountain but I have trouble running 441 with clubs for long periods. Likely my fundamentals with doubles needs some work and these are great exercises.

Glad they can help! I’d recommend a lot of 423 with doubles for your four club journey. Probably even more important than 441 and will be easier to work on without that pesky handoff.

Awesome is the next step with doubles to speed them up and lower them ? I still find it hard to throw singles after a double (mixing) and I sort of wish I went through this process instead of just brute forcing myself from 1/3 to 3/3

Low and fast is definitely one path to follow, especially if you’re just running it without mixing. I touch on it at the end. Also, it’s never too late to figure out the mixed variations. Since you can already run doubles, you’re way ahead of the game. I stumbled through originally too and only later with other patterns did I figure out the method.
