Hey all, the price of the packages have gone up significantly since the release of this video but the same general concept applies. The best rates that seem to come out are around 30% off, the “Buy one get one 50% off” (25% off each) has showed up multiple times on our cruise planner. If you can grab the 25% off or higher and it makes sense for you based on how much you intend to drink, the drink package will be worth it. We just came off our first cruise without the drink package and we missed it so much, mainly just the fun of trying new drinks without caring about the cost in the moment. Going in a week and for two of us the alcohol package is literally more than my cruise, almost 700 dollars for two people for 4 days!!!!!!! That is absolutely insane!!!!!! Doing the math even if my wife who barely drinks as it is, we would have to consume over 10 drinks per day to get anywhere near our value.

I recently went on a 4 day cruise and had the deluxe drink package. DEFINITELY worth it. Also, you present your room key and that it. No drink package people get a receipt and have to sign and tip - what a hassle, we avoided with all that paperwork.

Good post. I'm a Loyal Royal Cruiser and get the deluxe drink package ever cruise. I also feel that if you know that you will drink more per day than the cost per day, it's a good idea to get the deluxe drink package. If the deluxe drink package is $73/day and I know that throughout a whole day, I will drink more than $73, the package is definitely worth it. Great information for new cruisers.

If you like to drink, its defiantly worth it. My girlfriend and I went on our first Royal Caribbean cruise last January on Oasis of the Seas. Spent $900 on the drink package. Would've been over $2000 on drinks if I didn't get it.

The answer is it depends on how much you normally drink and what price you can get the drink package at. The current price for my January 2023 cruise is $98 per person per day. We have done cruises with and without the drink package and here is NO WAY I spend that on drinks without the package. I plan to keep an eye on it though and see if I can get it on sale at some point.

Yeah exactly, $98/day is high! I heard they are increasing the prices for the drink package just through other KZbinrs. Keep an eye on it though as you stated I think whatever the new “base price” is they’ll still have sales that are 20-30% off throughout the year. Once we get diamond we’ll be getting it a lot less. Haha! We try to be a blast, by day 3 though we get a bit tired and sluggish haha! These drink prices have increased since we released this video but the math is pretty much the same, if you’ll drink 3-4 cocktails beer or wine, plus coffees juices smoothies or gatorades you’re golden.

I never buy the drink package. We pay a la carte for everything and never get close to the discounted price for the drink package. Not paying for drink package allowed us to buy photos, internet for the week, and payed for 2 excursions. All while drinking the same amount daily. Every time I don't buy the drink package discounted or not, I still save way more money paying a la carte. Can't knock it til you try it

Thats a great point, it’s going to come down to how much you’re going to drink and you may value putting your money into other things like internet, excursions, etc. it’s been a while since I’ve done a la carte but once we reach diamond I feel like that’s the way we’re going to go so we can cruise more often. The last cruise I was on was 2 years ago. The drink packages was $50 a day. I did not opt for this but there was one day that my spending was over $50 so after my request, they switch that day to the drink package. You don't need to pre-purchase your drink packages for every day of the cruise.

Hey thanks for the info! Depends on the cruise line and I believe if you still have 4 days left on the cruise they will let you add the drink package for the remaining of the cruise. They don’t let you add it on for just 1 day (at least with Royal Caribbean). I’m not sure if that’s changed since 2 years ago. Someone correct me if I’m wrong!! Thanks for watching! 🍻☀️😎

Ha! Checking out a Bermuda cruise on Enchantment of the Seas. Inside room is at $338pp. The drink package will be $360 for 6 nights, plus 18% service fee!

Haha I know right it’s wild that it’s more expensive to drink on the cruise than take the cruise itself. Ours is a 9-night Bermuda, here’s why we went with it for our cruise.. we only have 3 destinations and one of them was CocoCay so we get full use of the drink package the majority of the time. Once we’re diamond 💎 we will get the drink package a lot less just so we can cruise more ☀️🍻😎

Loved the Coco Loco! That is a fun drink. Had a server walk around to sell drink of the day on the pool deck. That guy would walk around with a bottle of rum on his head for a freshening of rum.

Well said As a regular RCL cruiser I enjoy the convenience of just giving my card to the bartender n Not having to collect the receipts to make sure the charges are accurate or the SHOCK at the end of the cruise of knowing how much I drank 🤦🏼‍♂️

Definitely! I have experienced that shock once before and lesson learned! It’s becoming harder to justify the drink package but I hope they can bring the prices back down to that $59/day mark. My drink package is always more than my cruise costs. My 3 upcoming bookings are around $50/day for the package. This deal included WiFi, $100 per 7day shore excursion credit & 1 per 7day specialty dinning. All my bookings are back to back, so much longer. 26 days in Europe/Iceland, 14 days in Alaska, 26 days in the Mediterranean. On the 2, 26 day cruises I actually have $400 Shore excursion credit & 4 nights dining per 26 days, so the package is a bargain for me. Package is higher than my cruises mainly because I get really great deals through casino loyalty programs. All my 3 remaining cruises this year are free fare. Not a high roller, just play the slots & Black Jack. I get $300 in free play in the casino too. Taxes & port fees never come in higher than the drink package. I'm on Princess & Holland America mostly.

We are cruising with Holland America to Alaska and got the Have it All package. It is $50 cdn per day and includes $100 for excursion, the internet package and one specialty dining. It was $350 for the week, a no brainer for us! It has a limit of 15 drinks a day limit and a cap of $11 per drink.

My experience was it was worth it for my wife and myself. We don't drink beer and a glass of wine, and a martini is around $13 each and their pours are far from generous, so our Caribiana cruse it was worth it. Our next cruise that is a port a day we didn't get the package.

Agreed! Some itineraries are great for the drink package (the ones with more sea days) while other itineraries have so many port days that you’re not on the ship a lot so it makes more sense to just buy drinks as you go. :)

Heading to New England/Canada this Oct. on Enchantment of the Seas and opted for the package. It was $67 USD (40% off normal price?). We are not huge drinkers and it is not a tropical trip so not sitting around the pool (maybe Solarium) sweating out. We are hoping that it may go down and will rebook it. DW loves a hot chai latte in the morning, we like a glass of wine before dinner, paired wine with dinner, some drinks at the pool, and perhaps a drink at the shows. Nice to not have to think about the process since it is in the package. Cool to note of the smoothies from Vitality. Have to try them. I do love fresh orange juice from the juicers as well. Looking forward to the trip!

I have Prime casino so I can drink there...but dont want to be held to just that....I think I hit diamond on the Anthem cruise in November, so I may not purchase for our cruise in March on the Wonder, since they give you coupons for daily drinks....but like you guys we are traveling again with friends we met on the cruise and I have a feeling we will do a bunch of drinking again!!!...

Just purchased the Deluxe Beverage Package at $73 per day, with 50% off the second one, on Royal Caribbean Wonder of the Seas. However, this is in American dollars, which I just discovered. Not sure why it's showing me USD prices when I am Canadian? I just looked at my credit card statement and the total cost in Canadian dollars came out to $1,628 with gratuity. That's $116 CAD per person per day that one would have to drink. So even with the discount it's not cheap. Great video BTW! Thanks for sharing.

Yeah it definitely adds a big chunk to your vacation plans, there should have been an option to toggle over to the Canadian website which would have reflected it in the right currency for you. I ALWAYS get a Cosmopolitan right away. This started back in the days when Sex and the City was on and the girls always drank cosmos.....so my daughter and I made it a ritual when we got on the ship. I still do it altho she is in Michigan and doesn't cruise anymore.....but eventually we will probably get to do it again!

Hey! Glad u had comparisons between Sea days and Port days. I need help with something if you dont mind. So far me and my cruise group of 4 other people all have the refreshment package (1 tier below deluxe) because on our 7 night cruise we have 4 port days and 3 sea days. Our sea days are day 1, day 4, and day 7. I heard that if you still have at least 4 days left on a 7 night cruise, you can still buy a deluxe drink package only for those 4 days. So here's my question. Should I buy the deluxe package for the final 4 days since it has 2 out of my 3 sea days or upgrade from the 7 day refreshment to 7 day deluxe? I'm 23 yrs old and havent tried a large majority of drinks including wines but I feel like if I be sure to drink water while having cocktails, etc. then I'll be sure to get my money's worth on top of not being sick for the Port days. I also feel like if I get the deluxe package then I can take notes on my phone of what I enjoy the most, sort of enjoy, and straight up dislike for my future cruises 🤔

Hey! Glad to share our opinion, I personally think if you’re going on a cruise with a group of 4 it would be really fun if everyone upgraded to the drink package. It depends if it’s affordable to you and if using the video you think you will get your moneys worth. Keep in mind when you order the drink package USUALLY the other person in the stateroom has to get it as well, but sometimes they let you if the other person has the refreshment package. If I’m 23 and I’m going on with a bunch of friends/family, I’m definitely getting the drink package. Now keep in mind you can bring on 2 bottles of wine per stateroom and choose to upgrade half way through your cruise as you stated if you wanted to land somewhere in the middle. Theres so many different bars and venues depending what ship you’re on, if you can swing it it’ll be a lot of fun. I rarely drink alcohol, (I'm a lightweight, lol) But I did book the regular beverage package for my next two cruises next year. I need my coffee. I think for someone like me it would not be worth it for 1 or 2 drinks a day at dinner or something. I'll have to run the numbers after the cruise and see if it would be worth it for the next one. That’s awesome you’re going to have so much fun!! If you’re a big coffee drinker and not so much alcohol make sure to check out the Refreshment package, you still get all the coffees, smoothies, freshly squeezed orange juice, pop/bubbly water, etc. Then you can just bring on 2 bottles of your own and buy a la carte! For Royal Caribbean you can basically just continue to drink as much as you want, even alcoholic drinks I’ve never been told I can’t have more. I know that you can only order 1 at a time but if you went back to the bar 5 minutes later they’d give you another. I think for other cruise lines, for example Carnival, might have the 15 drink limit that applies to non-alcoholic drinks as well but I’m not sure. Thanks for watching!! 🍻☀️😎

I know for 100% 1 person can get the Refreshment package while the other person can have the drink package. However, I wonder if there’s a special circumstance such as a pregnancy where they wouldn’t require you to get the refreshment package. Hey! You could either get the refreshment package and get unlimited specialty coffees as well as fizzy water and just buy your ciders as you go OR get the deluxe and have it all included. It may be hard to get your moneys worth you’d have to drink a lot of ciders. So just do some number crunching If you’re going to have like 10 ciders for example then the deluxe will be worth it but if you’re going to have 2-3 then the Refreshment would be the way to go. Great question, I can’t speak for every cruise line but I know for example Celebrity has the “always included” package built into the cruise fare which does say it includes tips and their classic beverage package. I haven’t been on NCL but I tried doing some research and from what I can find its an added cost not included in the drink package. A lot of people recommended just getting a frozen virgin drink but that’s not going to be the same quality & nutrients compared to something you can get at the vitality cafe on Royal. But if you’re just looking for a frozen fruit taste that might be a good alternative.

You might want to take a look at Viking cruises. The fare looks quite a bit higher to start with, but they don't gouge you at every turn like the legacy cruise lines. Those of us in the 55+ age range are the demographic Viking is looking to attract. Beer and wine are included at lunch and dinner. Their a la carte pricing for drinks is a lot more reasonable than other cruise lines and you can bring your own booze on board if you want to. They don't charge for bottled water or specialty coffees. We feel like we get a better value for our money because we never feel like they are sticking their hand in our pockets. They don't have onboard photo sales or a casino, something to consider if you like or really dislike those things.
