Perfect directions. I went into the hardware store, grabbed the replacement hose and compression couplings, took them to an associate and told him what I was doing to just confirm I had the right parts. He just said "yup" and I went home and made the repair. Felt like a handyman when I most definitely am not.

Thank You for this video. We accidently cut our irrigation tube when digging out out a plant in our yard. Our house was built only a year ago so I was so upset with myself for the bonehead move. Now I feel better knowing it can be an easy fix.

My method uses one coupler and no extra pipe: 1. Cut about .5” from pipe - .25” on both sides of leak. 2. Install coupler. Given that the pipe is flexible, you can easily lift it from the ground just enough to attach a coupler without kinking the pipe.

You can use a pex-expansion tool to expand the tubing/with a short piece of upinor pex, or a pex ring, or pex expansion ring, then connect expanded ends to a coupler 👍

I have drip line around my plant. I poked a hole in it and need to repalce or repair it. I have tne water running to it in a solid same size pipe connected with a T fitting. How do i remove tne T fitting so i can install a new drip line and reattach it to the existing T fitting? I'm using RainBird products. The T fitting is barbed also.

Sorry for the late response. You can repair small holes in drip tubing using a goof plug like this: www.ewingoutdoorsupply.com/drip-emitter-plug-for-1-8-1-4-inch-tubing?categoryId=111 The other option would be to cut the tubing off near the tee leaving enough length to install a compression coupling that can be used to add on a new length of tubing to replace the old. This video might help explain. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYTHl4uOp7plbrs Thanks for watching!

I appreciate the effort, but this ONLY works on hoses that are either on the ground or dug out for feet on both sides (very difficult if 6 inches deep and under the weed fabric. The first side goes on easy, the second is almost impossible. Heating the end only causes it to flatten, deform, and thus get larger than the connection holes. Save yourself a couple hours and use the clamp interior fittings. You'll be done in 10 minutes.

Why would you cut out a foot of the old pipe to replace the section using two couplers? One cut and one coupling would fix the leak with half the expense and half the likelihood of a subsequent leak. Right?
@ewingoutdoorsupply
@ewingoutdoorsupply 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question Addy. It's possible to use just one coupling but In many cases the tubing will split along the length of the pipe (longer than the coupling). Adding in the length of tubing will give you more flexibility to ensure that the entire split section is removed. It also gives you enough slack to seat the tubing all the way into the couplings on either side. The parts are inexpensive and if done properly leaking shouldn't be an issue.

So for this fix you'll need 2 compression couplings?
@ewingoutdoorsupply
@ewingoutdoorsupply 3 жыл бұрын
Correct, if the damage is small enough or you have enough slack in the line you may be able to fix it with one coupling. Thanks for watching!

What about leaks that occur close (1" or less) to a Tee fitting? How do you go about removing the old tubing from the fitting, and insert a new tube. Or do I have to cut the entire Tee fitting out and replace it with a new one + 3 couplers?
@ewingoutdoorsupply
@ewingoutdoorsupply 5 жыл бұрын
You may be able to reuse the Tee using a pair of needle nose pliers to pull out the tubing. See this tip from another KZbinr here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmKnf5KQas-rbqM Just be careful not to damage the inside of the fitting where it seals to the tubing. If you have to replace the tee hopefully there's enough slack in the line to not have to use couplings as well. Good luck with your repair!

Is there a stronger tubing I can use? Mine was installed in 2009 and I have a leak what seems like every month.
@ewingoutdoorsupply
@ewingoutdoorsupply 5 жыл бұрын
That was the case as well for the system in this video; It was just time to replace it all. It can be a labor intensive digging the trenches but the product itself is fairly inexpensive and easy to install. Unfortunately, poly tubing can be susceptible to leaks over time for a variety of reasons. It could be a result of weather (freeze/thaw), burrowing animals digging or chewing through the tubing, or just age. If you don't mind the extra expense you could use PVC or HDPE for the majority of your runs then transition to poly as needed. Thanks for watching and for the question!

We hear ya Ali. The system in this video was 20 years old and leaks were popping up regularly. New tubing was installed 2 years ago and no leaks since then! If you have an aged system you might consider installing new tubing (and valves/y-filters). Good luck and thanks for watching!
