I notice Driscoll's conventional strawberries are oversized likely due to genetic engineering of the variety. In my experience, the smaller traditional varietals are sweeter and denser in berry flavor.

Hi A R, all of our berries, both organic and conventional, are non-GMO.We use only proven natural and traditional breeding processes, including hand cross-pollination. We agree that tiny, wild strawberries are especially sweet! Our R&D team looks for ways to bring some of the positive traits of wild strawberries like flavor into varieties that can ship well and hold up on the shelf through cross-pollination. Because it's such a manual process, it takes many years to find a variety tastes delicious, has a good size and appearance, and holds up long enough to ship to grocery stores throughout the country.

You would naturally assume that about the flavor of the generously-sized Driscoll strawberries, but that simply is not the case. Driscoll's have so much more flavor than many of the other, organically-grown berries, incl. locally hand-grown strawberries, I have tasted. They've little taste, if any and some have a strange..."watery" or "green" taste...they taste more like grass than a berry? I can't quite describe it. We have cherries that are sold in a few of our supermarkets, here, in NY, that are PERFECT. Every one is of equal size and quality. They are firm and big & juicy...they HAVE TO be genetically engineered, right? I immediately drew that conclusion as they are just too "perfect" (I know to suggest genetically engineered fruit is perfect and Nature is not, is wrong, but it is the word I am using to describe the appearance). I am one of the few who doesn't believe genetically engineered crops are as evil as most assert they are, especially given that this technology is being utilized to feed people in underdeveloped countries.

Organic is important to me and my family. Especially in berries. Dr Oz says never to eat non organic berries, and my leaky gut is the reason why. Organic all the way.
@Hollyannsea

I agree with the comment below about the size of the berries has to be GMO, if that isn’t bad enough, here in Pennsylvania your strawberries are rather unappealing and tasteless so i don’t buy them anymore. I am puzzled regarding the organic versus ?(what) GMO? Pesticides? If a farmer is growing organic, why would he plant anything else? So i tend to doubt their claim of organic.

Hi Hollyann, all Driscoll's berries are non-GMO.We use the process of cross-pollination to develop new varieties of berries, which is a process where the plant scientists take pollen from a father plant and rub it on the flowers of a mother plant. Learn more about that process here: www.driscolls.com/about/joy-makers/natural-breeding-through-cross-pollination Driscoll's works with over 700 independent growers, some who grow conventionally and others who grow organically. Before a product can be labeled “organic,” a government-approved certifier inspects the farm where the food is grown to make sure the farmer is following all the rules necessary to meet USDA organic standards. Driscoll’s organic farmers are certified organic by USDA-accredited certification agencies. Please visit our website for more information: www.driscolls.com/berries/organic-berries/what-is-organic.

I have never seen your strawberries in my store that say they are organic. Is all of your fruit organically grown? Where do you source your water for your crops? Do you use fracking wastewater on your crops?
@Driscolls
@Driscolls 6 жыл бұрын
Driscoll's offers both organic and conventionally grown strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. If you're looking for our organic line, look for the green label on the package. Most water used for irrigation is sourced from deep wells or municipal sources. Microbial levels in irrigation water are monitored at every farm. All independent farmers who grow Driscoll’s berries must adhere to the same stringent water quality standards. Where alternate sources of water are used, Driscoll’s specifies a more stringent monitoring schedule and employs appropriate water treatment systems to ensure that the water quality is suitable for its intended use.
