This song grew on me during the first time playing it. Now, more than ever, we need some wisdom and rock from the DBT. Thanks fellows...this record is coming at the right time.

Should of known this one wouldn't be a lyric video. No way the words on the screen could keep up with Cooley.

A return to form and to blue collar stories that ordinary people can relate to 👍🏻

Ya im glad people lambasted them for there communists black supremacy crap that was there last album . No excuse though they where better then that oh well

This is literally a song about being a famous rock star and wondering whether your rock star antics have built a larger than life myth that leads your offspring down a bad path. There are parallels with simple life, sure, but it's not exactly a blue collar anthem.

Lyrics: No matter how many pens a poet drains How full of shit he is or ain't Well it ain't up to him to tell ya So if burnin' out sounds better And leaving hands and corpses makes good sense Well, then by all means crown the lizard Every single storied flameout's Purgatory playlist skirts the pay-outs Anyone from his loins might collect His is a legacy in tourist traps Conspiracies that took him out And tattoos someone else lives to regret All those well-intentioned lies that I myself romanticized Believably enough to pass as love songs With more than one man on one knee It never stops amazing me How easily the heart hears what it wants to Said the man who pissed the river If it's on and up you're after There's no mystery how the dam inside you burst I'd have a lot of nerve to go feigning shock and outrage If I'd lived my example, I'd be worse That part of you that feels alive is wired and can't be severed From the damage-seeking part of you that runs it Just don't embrace it with a vengeance before you've even shaved With a razor that you bought with your own money Said the man who pissed the river If it's on and up you're after There's no mystery how the dam inside you burst I'd have a lot of nerve to go feigning shock and outrage If I'd lived my example, I'd be worse Every single storied flameout's Purgatory playlist skirts the pay-outs Anyone from his loins might collect His is a legacy in tourist traps Conspiracies that took him out And tattoos someone else lives to regret

Is it me, or is Cooley referencing Jim Morris in parts of this? Like maybe using Morrison as an example of someone who flamed too quickly thru addiction? I know Cooley mentioned his going thru a rough patch.

Hey I love DBT. One Of my all-time favorite bands. And I love the guitar the music on this track. But I’m sorry Cooley sounds like he’s reading random words out of a book he just opened up. That’s more talking than singing.
@christopherdiorio51072 жыл бұрын
Literary lyrics aren’t for everyone. But it’s far from “random words” - listen to the first three lines again: “No matter how many pens a poet drains How full of shit he is or ain't Well it ain't up to him to tell ya”
