Beautiful scenery along the way but the roads were horrendous today. 21 miles from Tilaran to Monteverde took 1.5 hours.

Thank you for posting this. I see it was a while ago. I came here to get some visuals from LF around the Lake, a trip I'd imagine is scenic. I blinked and missed the Lake here- :021. I assume there's cool scenery and stops on that first leg???🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

Stumbled upon this video by chance. Reminds me of the drive I did in 1986 on the same road. Less paved back then and less touristy. Glad to see road is still mostly unpaved. . We were the only paying guests for two nights in then brand new Hotel Balmoral. and one of a handful of visitors to the reserve. we had the place to ourselves and it was so memorable. Later visits sadly were full of tourists. No real options back then in santa elena except a general store . ah...those were the days! .

We took our parents and grandmother on our trip last month and rented on of these vans from national by the airport. Worked prefect, we drove it from San Jose up Poaz then to coco beach then Arenal then back. Highly recommend them.

Your video was GREAT! You left nothing out... right down to the fact that you were not driving a 4x4 (which I was wondering when I started watching). Thanks so much for taking the time to post this!!

we just drove it in the wet season with a RAV4 - no problem. Ticos know how to build well drained roads.

Sorry - I don't check these notes very often - we did not have a special drivers license - we are from Canada - we were stopped by the police between Tilaran and Monteverede (we weren't speeding - they just wanted to pull us over) - they checked our passports to make sure we had our immigration stamp and let us go.

Also....this is one of the funnest roads I've ever drive. Don't forget to stop at the Macadamia Cafe'

I am from Costa Rica and I found this helpful as well. One correction though, it's not Tilarin, it's Tilarán.

I'm on my way to Costa Rica soon and I'm going to be driving the same road. Great video to understand the road conditions. How long did the total drive take?
@jetdirt13 жыл бұрын
@mrfurious5 - 3 hours - see 9:05 to the end of the video and you can freeze frame on the GPS with the trip statistics

Was in La Fortuna in the rainy season one year. Glad we decided NOT to make the drive to Monteverde.

Where is "Cost-a-Rica"...? If you're going to visit a country, learn how to pronounce its name.

A bunch of gringos supported by wealthy gringo parents who are pronouncing names in a gringo sort of way. Decided not to watch the video the full way through. A waste of time, really.
