Love Jay Leno, real car guy."It's a car, I drive it." Exactly. If you can't afford to drive it don't buy it. Tired of the investors buying cars and locking them away. Jay is not one of them.

@Jake DoesntLikeU My grandfather owns a 70s nova SS. Has never driven it. he bought it as a pile of rust and restored it to all original. Now i get him not wanting to drive it in the town he lives in. People don't know how to drive there. But for years we've all been telling him he should drive it, take a road trip with it after all the work he did on it.

The "Ford options story" puts me in mind of a friend who's mother let him do the options page on the '66 Nova Wagon that she purchased brand new. He checked off every "HO" (I'm pretty sure the motor was a 327 HO, basically a 'Vette powerplant) and rear-end/suspension upgrade option lol. Had a sleeper/tire broiler when it arrived. One day he was cutting donuts in the parking lot of the local burger drive-in while all his friends watched, and his Mom walked up (while he was going 'round mind you!), jerked the door open and snatched the keys! From then on, whenever he and his buds were getting up to stuff that was "questionable" and they wanted to get a rise out of him, they'd say "Hey man, here comes your Mother!", which never failed to make him look around to see if she really was! True story. Rest easy MagicBird...

What he told on the show that was not in this video was, one day Jay was looking for something in one of his father's drawers and came across a speeding ticket his father had gotten in the car, for going 120 mph. Jay's knowledge of all his vehicles and motorcycles is amazing.

It warms my heart to hear his "Father and muscle car" story. I think (Me included) if you grew up in the 70s-80s your 30 something dad at one point had an old car that was in the V8 muscle range and you remember fond trips in it and you absorbed the energy both it and your father was sharing with you. It saddens me to know, that that type of childhood memory is going away now and our kids of today won't know that feeling of driving with your dad in a car that made you feel tiny yet strong at the same time. Miss my dad and that car.

My second car (first was a 1965 Dodge GT, red with a half black vinyl roof that my sister originally bought new) was a 1971 Light Gunmetal Challenger with a black vinyl roof and the standard 318 engine. It was a demo from Ebbet Fields Dodge in Brooklyn and I paid $2,175 for it. Had it for 10 years and wish I had kept it even if it had to stand on blocks. Every time I see one of these 70’s Challengers it brings back great memories. I know this is TMI but at 68 years old I feel very lucky to have owned some great cars over the years that are now classics.

Far more powerful than what Mopar said, much lighter in the front end for superior handling. Best muscle car from the muscle car era, IMHO.

I was doing 155 for hours. Incredible car. OK, I was young and stupid and invincible. After an hour or so, 155 feels moderate. Slowing down to 100 felt like crawling. The car was a beast. I'm 17 right now. I drive a modded out jeep wrangler but next year I have to give it back to my dad (it's been mine through high school) I plan on buying a 69' challenger or a lotus evora when my time with the jeep is up. I've been saving up some time and still have a year to go and at this rate I'll get one. I hope to never own a boring POS daily driver. Its better to sacrifice some creature comforts for a nice car in my eyes. I'm glad you find enjoyment in cars and found someone who does too.

When I was a junior in high school, I loved the Olds Toronado when it first came out. I used to draw it all the time. All my notes, from when I was supposed to be taking notes in class, were covered in doodles of the car. Instead of listening to the teacher, I'd be concentrating on the Toronado sketches. That's probably why I got "C"s in those classes, and I blame the car for that. Jay's Toronado is the car I would have wanted. Same color. Those upgrades he's made are astounding. REAR WHEEL DRIVE!! That's nuts!

My first car when 17 yrs old was a 68 gold Toronado just like this one but of course no turbos and rwd. It was plenty fast with the 455 but it was all I could do to keep it fed with premium gas and getting about 7-8 mpg around town. It was a fantastic car for the time period

I love these shorts from Jay's garage. What I really hope is that Jay makes sure that his collection stays intact and there is some way for people have access to this slice of history on into the future. Please don't let what happened to Harrah's car collection happen to what you have done Jay. Keep it up Jay. You are really appreciated !

Great video Jay, As always. I had a 67 Galaxie Xl Cone. W/351 Automatic, it was a pig on gas. I laughed like h--ll when you said if you leaned on it you would go through the fender. Mine, I lost the spare tire out of the trunk. It rusted that bad, I had to take the trunk lock out of the trunk lid, and poured hot water around the trunk seal. Traded it the next day, Bought a 69 GTO, you could do that in Feb up here. Thanks for the memories Jay. Have a great holiday.

They really look overloaded with cheeseburgers to me. Like a big bodykit. Don't think they'll ever shape them the same way again. Because someone bought a new hellcat and drives it to work doesn't make them the coolest ever. Bringing '70 Challenger to work really shows superior intelligence and sass and style. There's NOTHING like classic cars. No airbags, no EFI, no abs, no traction control. Bare bones MUSCLE CAR

I'm more annoyed by the poor editing. For example, when Jay starts talking about the antenna, it cuts to a close up of the engine, and then back.. why? Makes no sense. It's always interesting to see Leno and his cars and, most of all, the stories accompanied, but I have to watch it again, because I missed most of the talking because I was thrown off by the poor editing.

Resto-mod is a great way to save the styling I grew up with on American cars. Like Jay (in only this respect), I like best cars that are drive-able today, with today's suspension technology and braking. His standard sound/thermal insulation package is also so much better than we had 'back in the day.' This video offered nicely done vehicles from major makers plus the kind of touches the 'bean-counters' at Corporate headquarters would never pay for back in the day (assuming similar parts or analogous parts had been available.)
