I just did the TET in Italy on an XC scrambler with no issues. Yes, it's not a Husky 701, but it's pretty capable. It's got the same suspension travel as a KTM 790 (non R version) and as the Tenere 700, so what do you mean it can't go offroad? It can! Much more than the stiff 120mm on the Rnine-T if anything. It can do anything a GS can do, except huge luggage boxes. It's a scrambler, it's not an old man's GS with the wind protection and luggage capacity of a small car :)

Pretty balanced review although I agree with some of the comments below that the Triumph is probably more capable off-road than you give it credit for here. Some knobblies and time adjusting the suspension to suit might help although I appreciate that may then detract from it being an all-rounder. I think the R9T Scrambler is pure marketing. The original R9T Roadster has forks off the S1000R I believe and it makes a great road bike. Fantastically planted and you can enjoy that air-cooled boxer to the max. It's the pick of the R9T range in my book.

Greg bristowe It can go off-road, but not very well. Although it comes with 200 mm travel, the damping has a street set-up. I have a Tiger 1200 i live in Portugal and we have a warm weather and there is nothing special about the heat in the bike! Other bikes produce heat too... It's perfectly normal!
@stopper900045 жыл бұрын
I ride an XC in Los Angeles in 32 degrees and think it is a very real problem, especially in city traffic, if you do not have tall, thick, riding boots (Sidi Adv or motocross boots) and heat deflecting material (I have to line my right trouser leg with fire-proof material to deflect the heat!). I have ordered a Free Spirits H-Pipe header to replace the original catalytic converter header... that should reduce the heat by about 50%, which I am told makes it bearable in normal clothing. So assume you will need to invest about $600 in parts and labor to solve the problem. It's not a big deal in that sense, and the bike is insanely fun to ride, so it is extremely worthwhile.

I've owned an R-Nine T Scrambler and currently own a Scrambler XC. In the UK the R-Nine T Scrambler Sport is only a £50 saving over the XC and the one thing you get on the BMW in this spec that you don't get on the Triumph is heated grips. But what you do get included on the Triumph as standard and not even available as a cost option on the BMW is cruise control, Brembo M50 calipers, keyless ignition, five rider modes (including off road), LED headlamp, 10,000miles (16,000km) service schedules, TFT Dashboard, under seat USB port etc Don't forget that the standard suspension on the Triumph is tunable to rider style/weight and more than capable for mild off road use, whereas the BMW's suspension as standard is only fit for the bin ! Don't get me wrong. I'm not a BMW hater. I love my R1200 GS LC but please credit where it is due. The BMW has just had its arse kicked BIG time and I have no doubt that an Arrow 2-1 decat exhaust system will be winging it's way in to the shops very soon to cancel out those few peeps who moan about their right leg getting hot PS Good Review

Thank you for another spot on review where you thoroughly contemplated each issue and the real world importance of each. I also can’t possibly commute with a motorcycle with heat issues especially considering the climate I commute in. The BMW is in my opinion the best looking and has the most character, but after riding it I can confirm that it is not at all suitable for leaving the city. If you’re a smaller person the BMW does however offer plenty of tinkering options to remake it for your intended purpose, within limits depending on how much you end up spending on remaking it obviously. The Triumph does offer the best value for money and the best engine sound but is not at all suitable as a commuter and even though better than the BMW outside of town, not intended for anything more than a Sunday morning breakfast run. If you’re realistic in your use, and all you do is the odd breakfast run, the Triumph is very good choice. The BMW is the ultimate hipster retro urban warrior weapon, if that sounds more like you.

If the bike is under movement, even slow speeds, it doesn't really bother me. Now, I heard the 1200 Scrambler has moved the catalytic conversor to the back of the exhaust pipe and I was wondering if that would help reduce the heat a bit. From what I see in your review it looks like that didn't help, or maybe the size of this engine kills the benefit.

The R Nine T on the other hand is only marketed as a "Scrambler" but has almost nothing to do with it besides the nobby tires and the name of course. If you want to hit some jumps, take your dirt bike, if you want to tour and carve some twisties, take a bike with street tires.

I can never quite understand why people watch these reviews done by people that don't even own the bikes and talk utter horse shit. Bikes are individual, made by a manufacturer for a certain buyer, a buyer that knows what they want and a buyer that buys a bike, because it's suits them and does what the MANUFACTURER says it will do. These reviews mean nothing, in fact all they do is offer 2 guys the opportunity to ride bikes every day, talking utter garbage and try and convince YOU, that the bike they say WINS (and what does that even mean) is the bike you should buy, not just go and test ride them yourself and choose the one YOU like the most. Apologies, i don't mean to be a PIG about this, but come on guys, tell us the specs, ride the hell out of them for a week and give us an informed opinion, not a WINNER, what does that even mean.

best "pretend" hipster scrambler? Neither. Save some serious money and buy the prettier, lighter, more versatile and fun Yamaha XSR 700 Tribute.
