The Formula bee seems to be modeled after a formula Vee. It is based on a Volkswagen Beetle. That explains why you do not find the radiator, it is aircooled. It also explains the angle of the rear wheels and also why the suspention is quite strong.

It looks like a formula V race car, and if its like the real ones, its tough because its basically the driveline and suspension from an old beetle (trailing arm/torsion bar front and swing/beam axle rear). Basically its bulletproof

I think the F1 car did well because it's a late 60- late 70s model. The older F1 tires had tread. It also had tires with a larger radius and width. Engine being to the rear helps.

Formula Bee is actually a Formula Vee so basicly a pre-1963 VW beetle based sigle seater. Front axle is exactly the same with the H-Beam of trailing link design. The engine is usually a flat 4 aircooled 1.600 cc or 1,200 cc Beetle engine.

The unexpected suspension travel on the Formula Bee car is likely because you changed how high it rides. More height usually extends the suspension range. Oh and Modern NASCAR's do not race on dirt. Maybe in the very early days of the sport they did, but now days they are strictly paved oval and some road courses.

Strictly speaking, the mod was more a late model asphalt short track car than a NASCAR spec racer. And, yes they do race on dirt. It’s quite popular in the Midwest.

I think the B has swing axles in the rear, just like VW used for many years, as did many other carmakers. When it's unloaded by jacking it up or jumping it, the bottom of the tires tilt inward. Makes for interesting handling at the limit.

That "Formula Bee" is actually based on the Formula V - based on the Volkswagen beetle suspension. It's actually pretty realistic to the namesake - the way the back wheels droop and the front has been bent from the hits rolling the front suspension under the front end. Definitely a * as it has had to miss a lot of hazards.

Wouldn't it make more sense to drive over the checkerboard diagonally instead of straight on? Given the point of the circuit is to drive over it at speed and see if it breaks, not clonk into each tile at low speeds because the ride height is obviously not sufficient.

The Formula Bee is clearly based on an early Formula Vee car, so it has an air cooled engine, hence no radiator, and a modified form of early VW Beetle swing axle rear suspension, hence the reason for the rear wheels going to funny levels of positive camber when unloaded... Some of the odd handling with the Formula car is going to be because of having to raise the ride height. If you think about it, Formula cars are designed to run very low to the ground. If you raise the ride height then you're having a massive effect on the centre of gravity and that means that the centre of gravity can move around far more under braking, acceleration and cornering, which means that you're getting far greater transfers of weight than the car is really designed for. The inevitable result is going to be odd handling that is rapidly going to become more and more odd as the suspension takes damage...
