I seriously don't understand how this channel doesn't have over 1 million subs (come on people, make sure you subscribe). Straight facts, great reviews, no fluff. Two great things mentioned here. For starters, you don't put too much emphasis on 0-60 times. In mainstream vehicles, it's most irrelevant. No one "floors" it every time they are driving (especially in the city in traffic) so the actual 0-60 time you'd likely be using 99% of the time is likely around 20 seconds, which everything today can easily smash. Secondly, the capable charging rates are often misunderstood. As you mention, you'll only ever get it as fast as it being provided to you, so even if your car has 400 kW charging capability, if the charger only has 150 kW capability, that's all you're getting. Also, some charging stations share their load, so while a station may have 250 kW connections, if they have a bay of 8 chargers, it is possible all 8 can't provide that much power simultaneously (they typically share their bandwidth).

As a C40 2023 owner, Tom's review of the latest model pretty good. There's a couple of points I would point out that Tom probably doesn't have the time to go into detail. First, this car has an excellent charging curve. The max power a car can accept from a fast charger is not very useful unless you know the charging curve. Even those this car only has 150 kw max charging, and road test has beat out other models because the curve is so good. Second, this car has an excellent Google built-in navigation with excellent battery preconditioning. Not all EV manufacturers provide battery preconditionally, which can make or break a road trip. Third, his car has an excellent profile for city driving while still maintaining pretty decent back seats and storage space. Fourth, Volvo, along witn Polstar, have been excellent and providing updates to the software, comparable to what Tesla and Rivian have been with their customers. Fifth, you can get excellent deals like I did on used versions of this car, similar to a lot of EVs. Lastly, it has profiles and memory seating which is great if you are one car family like myself.

Great review Tom, thank you for your hard work sir. 3:50 I absolutely concur, 7 seconds is plenty fast. EV's have instant torque, so 7 seconds feels 1990's on paper, but its ample for overtaking etc. I think theres a bit too much hysteria around EV acceleration times. I almost pulled the trigger on the XC40, great car, but need more space. Waiting for EX60 to drop, and if priced right I think they will sell like iphones.

Personally I think the whole gas vs EV argument is silly. Both have their purpose and pros and cons, I wish the EV fanboys would understand why EVs don't make good sports cars, and I wish ICE fans would acknowledge the obvious benefits of EVs when it comes to daily drivers. I say this as an enthusiast myself, I've owned several manual transmission sports cars including my current c7 Vette. And I'm telling you, when it comes to daily drivers, a well-executed EV is simply better. We have a Jaguar I-PACE EV as our daily driver. This replaced our 970 Panamera Turbo (both of which we bought used btw), a car that most ICE fans would probably agree is a pretty good daily driver in its own right. And I can honestly say the Jag is better in every single way. I don’t miss the Panamera one bit, neither does the wife. With the Jag, there’s no automatic transmission to get confused around town, never getting into a hot or cold car with preconditioning, there’s insane instant torque, the smoothness and refinement is unmatched (not only because no engine noise but also because the 1000 pound battery insulates you from road noise), the use of space is excellent (small on the outside and big on the inside because no engine), low center of gravity, naturally perfect weight distribution, being able to blow by anyone in traffic anytime, never being in the wrong gear, way more efficient, never being late because I had to stop for gas, no maintenance, quicker than most v8 family cars and more efficient than i-4 family cars, etc etc. And even though on paper the panamera was faster 0-60, in real life around town it’s not even close - the Jag would be gone before the panamera would even get into the right gear. Yes, it can be annoying on road trips - but it's not the end of the world unless you road trip all the time. It's the better car 364 days of the year, and the worse car 1 day of the year. Having said all of that, like I said I'm an enthusiast, and we also have two sports cars (manual transmission c7 corvette stingray and an R56 Mini Cooper JCW, both of which I frequently use for road rallys and autocross), and I have no desire for either of those to be electric. The whole point of those cars is a visceral, loud, lightweight, connected experience with a manual transmission. I know there is a Boxster EV coming soon and I’m sure it’ll be great and smoke my c7 around any racetrack, but I have no interest at all, even as a current EV owner. Sports cars should be gas powered and manual IMO. So as I said, each has their purpose. I don’t see myself ever going back to gas for daily driver, and I don’t see myself ever going EV for sports cars. My point is simple: EVs are better at some things, and gas cars are better at some things. "Taking a side" doesn't make sense, even for enthusiasts. Just acknowledge what the other is better at. EVs dont work for everyone (you need a place to charge and can't road trip all the time etc etc), but if it works in your lifestyle - try it before you knock it is all I'm saying. You might be surprised. And like I said - just because a car is EV doesn't make it good. There are good EVs and bad ones, just like gas cars. For example, I' not a huge Tesla fan. But, the well-executed EVs are, in my opinion, the best daily drivers, if they fit into your lifestyle. ...and this is coming from someone that's currently on his 8th manual transmission sports car (Vette, Mini JCW, 350Z, etc etc). And to be clear - these are my favorite cars, not the I-PACE. But, I have a wife and a kid, and we need something that isn't manual and has a back seat. And in that category, the Jag is by far and away the best we've had.

Another great review Tom. I am always disappointed in the price differential between EVs and ICE cars with similar specs. I’m hoping some price parity will appear as I’m looking at an EV for my wife’s next car. Something like this would be perfect but way too expensive for what you get 🤔
@carlfe48919 ай бұрын
- 200kw vs 150kw peak charge rates is not identical on 150kw dispensers because the curves are different. New one should be ~5 minutes faster 10-80% because it can maintain a higher average speed. - CarPlay is wired only (no wireless) and Android Auto is not available in any form (but has been "coming soon" for some time.)

One thing to be aware of, YOU CANNOT PLUG A USB STICK in and Play Music files without downloading AUDIOWAGON, yes it's STAGGERING Volvo don't support audio playback in an APP of their own. And to top that EVERY TIME you switch on you have to confirm twice in a POP UP so that the usb device can be used. I came across this when I bought my C40 and EVERYTHING WORKED !! Then guess what... VOLVO upgraded the software AND REMOVED THE FACILITY TO PLAY DIRECTLY FROM ANDROID !!, this happened 2 weeks after I bought it, LIVID ain't the half of it !!

Thanks for a good update. I will continue to avoid Volvo Evs . Kia /Hyundai are making equivalent cars for much lower price. BMW is making vastly superior EVs for about the same price as Volvo. And, why do you have to 'reach in' to lower the rear seats? Other premium EVs have simple tabs or buttons near the hatch to do that for you.

if i go for ev it has to be tesla. no other brand. best tech and range period for the money. i just drove model 3 new one, and its one of the best cars i have driven recently. for $39k, plus charging infrastructure that others will never have. like 25k stations for Tesla's and about 15k stations for others. so still tesla advantage no matter how you slice it, tesla is just giving about half of chargers to others .
