So like learning to drive a car. I need to know the rules of the infrastructure and how the vehicle operates including all the ins and outs. I'd say being a bus driver is a much harder job than being a train driver, the only difference being you're responsible for more people and a more expensive asset as a train driver.

Before the Jubilee line was built, the section from Baker Street to Stanmore was a branch of the Bakerloo line. As far as Finchley Road was new build and from there to Stanmore was taken over from the Metropolitan line. The Bakerloo branch was opened in 1940. You can easily tell by the cream tiles and by the architecture of St.John's Wood station. Unlike the abandoned "new works programme" of the Northern line, this work was finished despite the outbreak of WW2

Automation is a big mistake but it's not so bad as long as there's an operator on board. The Jubilee line can also be operated manually but you need to get permission and it's not allowed in tunnels.

@@henryjohnson1374 big mistake??? Best thing to happen you mean. More trains can run safely as shorter gaps due to moving blocks. Less money spent on expensive signals and repairs when the trains govern that themselves. Plus one less excuse for companies when they talk about train delays.

@@MalaysianAviator737-8 I'm not sure what you mean by 1995 stock on the jubilee line as that's the train used unless you have something muddled up, but the trains can be driven in both ATO and manual although London underground prefer that the drivers keep ATO on as manual driving could slow the service down. @BridgerNinja5 жыл бұрын
No they're not. With the exception of a few underground/ metro lines in the UK, the rest are still manually driven by the driver up the front, many also still operate with a guard for door operation and other safety critical functions. I'm a train driver.

And why do they want a pay rise again? They already get paid more than some airline pilots to push a few buttons. Just automate the tubes. No driver required. It would be a lot cheaper at this rate!
@drsenseihugo3 жыл бұрын
Unions oppose the automatisation because that would mean thousands of jobs lost. Also the drivers have plenty of responsibility in closing the doors. You also have to keep in mind that if someone jumps in front of the train they are the ones who have to act quickly. Automatisation would also require installing platform edge doors at every station, which would cost millions, if not a few billions.

@aesonindustries83253 жыл бұрын
@@flightcomputer2437Even less of a reason... If a ato train hits a someone its not going to stop itself till designated stopping point and then if there isnt a driver manning the doors and its fully automatic there's more of a chance the train continues away if it happens at a station where people don't see ontime to pull an alarm or raise alert for the control tower to stop the train. Things like fires etc people would much rather a driver guide them out and give them comfort that an automatic train which wouldn't even deal with the fire physically nor would it be 100% to open the cab doors incase of an evacuation from the front. Drivers will be needed to make sure when things go wrong which it will they can sort it.
@flightcomputer24373 жыл бұрын
@@aesonindustries8325 Not worth the salary of an airline pilot. And seeing as the unions hold the public to ransom and won't take a reasonable wage then unfortunately they now have to be fired in order to reform the broken system. The other issues you point out can all be solved with either technology or by just employing a train warden to do everything you describe, and who would be reasonably paid instead of extortionately paid.
