I was the first person arriving on a scene like this on I-675 back in '86 (well, technically the THIRD, but the first not splattered all over the road) and the number of cars just blasting through the debris field with a car and semi (this one didnt flip over) on the side of the road with their flashers on just amazed me. The truck driver and I were walking up the median looking for the car driver and I was waving my flashlight at oncoming cars to slow them down, but no results. And there were some BIG parts in the road - axle, wheels, engine, transmission (no longer connected), body panels, you name it and it was in the street. Kept hearing bangs when cars would hit the parts, several stopped on down the road, I assume with flat tires or other damage.

To be fair, the first several drivers stopped, turned on their hazards, and for all we know were on the phone calling 911 immediately.

You don't need 20 people to stop. There was already people stopped. No reason to add 6 more useless people to the scene to block up the 911 lines with useless calls.

Are these rookie cops? I'm shocked....why are these cops allowing random civilian drivers (who so graciously pulled over to help in any they can) remove debris from the road? This is an active crash site...an active crime scene. Removing automotive parts out of the road is a form of tampering with evidence. Until the crime scene is secure & a proper investigation is conducted & concluded, nobody should be touching anything. That sedan just blew thru that stop sign. Was it operator error or was there something mechanically wrong with the car? One way to determine that is by the placement of certain parts that lay in the roadway. Measurements need to be taken, etc.... A lot of automotive part recalls largely stem from accidents such as this. And as a result of this, their interference could be jeopardizing other peoples safety....or even their own.
