+Paul Stevens only if I wanted to come off my bike. The road is cambered on my side of the road, it gets filled with broken glass and loads of crap. The Jag could have passed on the other side of me if he wanted if there was "plenty of room"

Look at it another way, the jag was already coming down past the parked cars before you got to them your end so he has priority, but no you still continue into an avoidable situation only to get your footage for KZbin. Happy Christmas, now on yer bike

If you look closely you will see the gap in the cars further up where he should have stopped or pulled into to let the traffic with priority pass. But you wouldn't know that because you just see a few cars and think the line is endless. But merry Xmas to you too.

Cars aren’t required by law to stop unless the pedestrian is actually on the crossing.

Some drivers are absolutely terrible at zebra crossings. The law isn't great, a police officer told me you have to have your foot on there crossing, but you need to wait til the driver has stopped before crossing. So even the police give inconsistent advice!!

Having your foot on the road gives you the right of way at a crossing, cars have to yield to users of the crossing but not to stop if you are merely on the pavement. Waiting for the car to stop when your foot is on the road is self preservation. I'd guess few pedestrians actually realise how to properly use crossings.

Sorry your wrong. The pedestrian only has right of way when on the crossing. The driver does not have to stop. www.highwaycodeuk.co.uk/pedestrian-crossings.html Zebra crossings. As you approach a zebra crossing look out for pedestrians waiting to cross and be ready to slow down or stop to let them cross you MUST give way when a pedestrian has moved onto a crossing allow more time for stopping on wet or icy roads do not wave or use your horn to invite pedestrians across; this could be dangerous if another vehicle is approaching be aware of pedestrians approaching from the side of the crossing. A zebra crossing with a central island is two separate crossings

Mark Darlington - I still think it is safer to stop when someone is waiting . If you wait for somone to actually step into the road then they could get hit . I always slow down and then stop if I see the wanting to cross .

+Mark Darlington I agree, the wording in the highway code could do with being updated so that it's more clear. I wouldn't step out onto a zebra crossing and hope that the cars stop. I make sure the drivers have seen me. Good points from both you guys and I agree with you both. Still think the drivers should have stopped

Why do people wait by the road at a crossing? Go out that's when the car has to stop. Annoys the hell out of me when someone waits till your car comes to a COMPLETE stop before crossing.

You have to wait fir the vehicle to stop, the vehicle driver is obliged to stop! The adage for the pedestrian is stop, look and listen!

People wait till cars stop because cars will blow through those crossings whether you are on them or not. One outside my house is used by kids getting to school, constantly get drivers flooring it to go through rather than let the kids cross, or drivers going through the 2nd half while kids are on the crossing but haven't reached the midway point. Even now the rules have changed it still happens. It may "annoy the hell" out of you, but getting steamed by a car that can't wait is a mite more annoying.
