People who know nothing about truckers seem to not understand that there are many types of truckers and trucking. The two main groups are Fleet trucks and Independant Owner-Operastors. Fleet truckers are employees. They go where they are told because they are driving someone elses truck. They are not operating a business; they are employees. The Independant Owner Operators do own their own trucks and make all the decisions of a small business owner. If you see a company driver at a protest it will be because the company owner, his boss, wants it that way. Or, it's a stolen truck. The Independant Owner Operators have a huge investment in their trucks and trailers. A decent tractor (or power unit or truck) will cost more than $200 k with a dry van 53 foot trailer costing $50K....There is also the value of the support system to keep this working. The people you will see at the upcoming protests are people who have worked hard and sacrificed much to attain their Owner Operator status. It is not easy to put together the credit, the cash, and the contracts to buy into this. Trucking is compeditive and staying in business requires extradordinary shrewdness and determination. When you see a trailer in the night lit up like a giant christmas tree, that is a Owner-Operator telling other truckers that he ain't just another steering wheel holder. He is NOT a employee. He is a Independant. Companys don't pay to have those lights installed on their trailers. So, have some respect for what these men and women are risking to participate in this protest. They will, under the best of circumstances, be sacrificing thousands of dollars of revenue. Under the worst case, they may be sacrificing their business. Why do they do it? Ask one of them.......Respectfully.

Go Truckers! Lets concentrate on the government's inability to serve its people. Truckers have a valid demand, but in Canada officials refused to sit down and discuss the science. Why? My opinion is that government is following their own agenda and don't care about people. This is violation of their sole purpose. Government must serve its people. So many laws have been violated in the past 2 years and government knows it. That is why they will try to spit their poison onto the protesters. But guess what, truth and science is on the side of the Trucker. Poison will not work. Force will not work. @@Lumby1 You must be Canadian....This is the United States and there is no reason any of the convoy drivers should be in any legal jeopardy beyond a possible misdeameanor. I would suggest that if a individual trucker is threatened with anything serious, they say ok and leave immediatly.......Then circle around and come back. A tactic of dynamic movement would totally defeat the tactics of applying overwhelming force to a static position. Washington DC has a beltway about 15 miles in diameter. THAT would be my secondary target and the fallback position from the city core. There should be more than enough trucks to clog that up good. Occupying territory was a tactical error of the Canadian Freedom Convoy. Also, I would bobtail my truck and leave the trailer behind.....At some point, the drivers have to park and that's MUCH easier without the trailer. Federal Hours of Service regulations and logging are still required, UNLESS the driver is using the truck as a personal conveyance. Not having a trailer makes it impossible to use the vehicle for a commercial purpose Bobtail tractors are brutal to drive and dangerous at highway speeds but ok at in-town speeds. And even better at 20 MPH....After all...SAFETY FIRST! The Teamsters used to call this kind of labor action The Union Wobble.........Ah man....Good times!

Lease trucks are used more by intermediate to large, non transport companies. Orbit Valve is an example. I retrieved a tractor from Harrisburg, PA that was leased from the Little Rock, AR domicile... former transfer driver for Ryder. The leased company has business in both locations, I think, or did but Ryder has facilities in each.
