Driving an Audi A6 3.0 TDI Quattro with 245 HP fast on the German Autobahn A29 from Wilhelmshaven past Oldenburg and back. All in all about 120 km. Video comes in two parts, this is the first one. Recorded with GoPro HD Hero 2 and a small keychain camera stuck to the steering wheel.

That's unfortunately the case not only in Germany, but in the USA, but the problem is the person ahead. If you see someone flashing lights, GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY. Also, if you carefully watch your mirrors and you see someone coming at high speed, move over or don't start your over-taking. But overall, I wish that people in the US drove with discipline like that. No left lane lingering.

@@rickvandijk7004 She means that if you are driving in the left lane(right lane is free),and somebody hit you with 260km/h in the back, this is totally your fault..And also it is very dangerous..As there are limits in the other countries it is not that dangerous cause brake time from 260km/h is much more than brake time from 140-160km/h..

Not really... most people dont go over 180 km/h in Germany. There are drivers who go faster however thats a small percentage. 200 km/h is pretty common but anything over that speed is pretty rare. Driving at constant 200+ is tiring... of course depends on the car but honestly drivers who want get to their destination quickly but still fairly comfortably usually dont exceed 200 km/h. 250 km/h is more like a short distance joyride for most.

We'll not so much a question of freedom, it's that our interstate highways are often in too rough a condition for that kind of speed. It could only work in states like Montana and Texas where there's large swaths of very straight highway with limited traffic. You can bet if that kind of speed were feasible here, our politicians would oblige just to get the votes.

Lex5576 Believe me - not all German Highways are in great condition - I'm from Europe-150 km from German border. I'm living in Canada right now, in Saskatchewan- they have here beautiful, straight highways without trees on the roadside, great cars...but stupid speed limits. Also they have bad drivers-especially pickup drivers... The police are not interested in the assholes that do not use signal light, or the drivers after a few beers ... but Try to exceed speed of 10km / h ...Ridiculous! And sorry for my English;)

Main reason why many in Germany stay at ~20 kph above speed limit is, that this is the threshold from which you don't only get fined, but you also receive malus points at the 'Flensburger Verkehrssünderkartei'. Those points add up (and take a while until they become time-barred), and if you reach too many of them, you will have to give away your driving license for some time.

This is how the Autobahn works. You have to stay in the right lane at all times, no matter how fast you are going. The only time you enter the left lane is, when you are passing another vehicle. Passing on the right is strictly prohibited. Flashing lights is also strictly prohibited. Many people do it and many also claim that you have to do it, but its actually illegal. And thats pretty much it. Oh and also, keep in mind, there is always someone faster than you no matter how fast you are going.

19:15 a black car gives way. I wonder what kind of feeling experienced a driver of that car at 210 km/h when he was overtaken by another car. And later 20:30 a blue car tryed to overtake the traffic at 220 km/h and then gave way at 200 km/h, what a great driving culture. Btw what is that sound when our hero drives more than 240 km/h. is it some sort of limiter or it's warning?

The US should INVEST in a United States Autobahn. One that goes from east coast to west coast to the north and south. Theres PLENTY of open land to make a nice long stretch of road. Make the poll to get on the road 10 dollars. This will KEEP idiots off the US Autobahn and make it that to even use the super highway that you car has to get a special sticker that says that the car can HANDLE the speed and its a safe vehicle.

If I think about USA where the highways much longer and straighter and those law ain't allowing 150kph xD -- It is silly just to give high speed the guilt for accidents - mostly it is the guilt of inattention, distracting or just blank foolishness...

Wish that the Spanish drivers could have the same skills and modals that have German drivers, for example in the left lane matter, as there's no car invading it, constantly, as the spanish drivers do, disturbing the rest of the drivers. Spain needs to apply the German traffic code as soon as possible, and apply the learning methods applied in germany => ban of speed limits on highways, excepting unstable conditions of the pavement or weather, instead of installing radars just for earning money, but does not interest to our politicians, that hypocritally are beyond the law.

Bro, before any country can adopt the german way of driving, they better start enforcing things in an intelligent way. Here in North America you drive 100MPH on a highway (designed for that by the way) you get your car impounded and get an automatic court date. But the idiot cutting 3 (or more) lanes of traffic to get off or not signaling or even worse HOGGING THE LEFT LANE AT 50 mph gets portrayed as a safe driver, JUST BECAUSE he is within that posted speed limit.
@vf2010

***** You said it man. I hate how they say that the majority of accidents is caused by "speeding" when really it is people who hog the left lane for miles and people trying to go around them. I have had more near misses because people were driving too slow and not paying attention rather than "fast" drivers. It just puzzles me why am artificially only allowed to do 60 mph on a straight road with no traffic but left lane loafers can impede traffic and make rush hour that much worse. Where did we get the idea that pissing off 30 cars behind you is "safe".

Trotzdem, geiles Auto :D As you see, even people with big cars do driving wrong sometimes. You dont have to give a signal when going IN a Roundabout traffic, you HAVE to when going OUT of it. giving signal when going in is useless, because u ONLY can turn right in a roundabout traffic. Many ppl do it wrong!

I live in Germany too. Trains are subsidised. Don't believe the Deutsche Bahn CO2 figures, as they include a high nuclear energy CO2 free component. If you strongly oppose nuclear energy as I do you won't use the trains out of principle. I'd rather walk. The most energy efficient way of transporting people is to use modern buses. Modern German diesel cars are more efficient even at high speed than American cars are at lower speeds. The A6 driver in the video is a very competent and smooth driver

Because: - People are much more concentrated - You may only overtake someone on the left, and unlike in other countries, this rule is really accepted by everyone, so the right lane is usually slow (80 - 100 kph) with lorries, the middle lane if existant may range from 100 - 180 kph depending on situation and individual drivers, and the left lane is for anyone who wants to go even faster than right/middle lane do. You always know what to expect on the Autobahn. - The roads are in a good condition

Very good driving! Remember guys, stay as much on the right, always use your turn signals when changing lanes and high speed traffic has priority in the left lane in germany.

New tires don't explode, only old and worn-out tires do that. If a tire gets pierced, the electronic will notice the loss of pressure and warn you, so you can slow down and stop. That's it.

Well drived, respecting the distances and starting to reduce speed with a big distance when a car is in your lane.

weeds and plants right beside the fast lane. So if there aren't more accidents than in the rest of Europe it's probably because drivers in Germany pay much more attention to what they're doing because they know that at any moment there could be a mercedes arriving at 250km/h. So mine is actually a compliment to German drivers, I just wanted to point out that as far as road safety and maintenance, autobahns aren't as safe as you say! cheers!

Trains are the backbone of the German (and european) transport system, ironic, considering the video is a german car on the german autobahn. Trains are only considered backward in the american heartland, where 60s hot rods are still hot stuff. Energy per (single) passenger at 200kmh is extraordinarily higher than the TGV, or Japanese bullet trains. Yes, I did look it up. Trains for inter-city connections, other forms of mass transit for local services, or an efficient automobile if you prefer.
