Lion's Back was closed in 2004, a few years before I moved to Moab after retireing, so this video has to be well over 18 years. I drove it in 2003 in a Jeep on a trip when living in TN. Really no where near as scary as it looks.

Good question. It's on private property and this was done after the close - there isn't any rubber on the rock any more like when it was open. Maybe they poached it?
@JCtheCheck8 жыл бұрын
That looks terrifying, even from the safety of my couch. From what I understand, they closed the Lion's Back to the public. Too many accidents/deaths. There's a milder, smaller version of it somewhere near by you can still go on thought.

It’s closed to public because it’s on private property. Always has been private property as far as I know.

@@tenmil1 Correct. That area is owned by the Nelson Family. They allowed folks for years until that Blazer footage. Closed right after that. It wasn't old man Nelson that closed it, it was his family. He liked it open, but the family's lawyers won of course.

Unless the back way up is still accessible. Will have to do it again before somebody gets the bright idea of putting a Taco Bell at the top. ZUK

BigBendBroncos Don't know if you've ever been to Moab but the traction is ridiculous. It's like driving on sandpaper, you notice he didn't so much as squeak a tire coming down. We drove my old junkheap Ramcharger from West Texas to Moab last year, wheeled for a week and had a blast. Wanted to go again this year but life keeps getting in the way.
@Scofari11 жыл бұрын
There really haven't been that many crashes. And the ones that do usually are from the brakes failing after running it so many times. Or missing a gear and free wheeling. The first 20 feet were steep and turning around at the top was sketch, but the rest fairly mellow. The view and the risk it what makes it amazing. Stock vehicles did it.
