Agree, but all the cities become a lot more alike and lost local features. As a native Shanghainese, I hate to see the original "flavor" got lost for good. We need a lot more projects like Xin Than Di and other ways to preserve the historical and authentic Chinese "flavour".

I saw Shanghai grow up throughout the 2000s ('02, '04,' 05, '06, '07 and ''09). I remember fondly the interplay of maze-like lilong alleyways mixed with breathtaking modernity. It's a city which really does linger in your memory. Someday I will return, I just hope those lilong neighborhoods are still there in significant numbers. Anyway, lovely video.

Both are modern and clean city, but Beijing has lots of elegant ancient story and buildings to discover. Both of them are worth to stay and enjoying. I see a lot of comments from Indian viewers complimenting Shanghai, and wishing Mumbai and Delhi would catch on, I’m Chinese, my country isn’t always this prosperous, but my country is full of hard workers, and hard work pays off, it’s very difficult to build so much buildings and bridges and high-speed rail, but these things aren’t like food or cloths, these things last, once they’re build, they can be enjoyed for generations to come, a lot of Chinese netizens mocks how outdated western cities are, but it also proves the reason western countries are rich, because they built skyscrapers and airports decades before us, but there’s a saying in China, 十年河东，十年河西，it basically means the East of the river will be prosperous for 10 years, than the west of the river will lead for 10 years, I do believe this will slowly happen throughout the world, one day, we’ll be sipping cocktail on a Mumbai super skyscraper, jump on a Chinese airplane, and fly to africa for technology conferences, just wait!

Whilst you drive down a road lined with trees either side that are going through the autumn change there they are, high above the tree line they can be seen, the three giants of Shanghai towering into the bright sky.
