I was remembering how things were in Columbus in 85. I miss those days..Thanks for the memory

Thank you for posting this. What great memories from this area at this time! I looked for Zacharia's Red Eye Saloon where I saw Joan Jett for the first time. It might have been called something else by '85. The Newport, formally the Columbus Agora, where I saw The Ramones numerous times and The Stray Cats and Ron Koal and The Trillionaires were the house band for awhile. You mentioned Mershawn Auditorium, saw George Thorogood there. Had to laugh when you went down that alley just east of High Street. That was a major thoroughfare getting up and down High Street without getting on and dealing with the traffic on High Street. Long's Book Store, Student Book X-change, School Kid's Records, World Theater, The Library, Magnolia Thunderpussy's, (sigh)....

I graduated in '86, so this was my era. Lots more laid back than today...and the campus bars weren't so pretty as they are now!

I lived at 237 1/2 West 8th from '89-'90. I'm not sure when they split it up , but 237 1/2 was the 2nd and 3rd floors. I had the bedroom on the 3rd floor (attic ), front and side windows. Great apartment, but extremely cold. Many days way below zero that winter and no heat. I ended up really sick. Lol. It's still there, I drove past a few months ago and took a pic. I'm always amazed that it's still there too. They removed the side chimney

This is hilarious and a strange coincidence! We lived there from 1987-88 right before you. The windows leaked a lot so we got plastic sheets and duct tape to seal the windows. We got broken into thru the kitchen. We lived upstairs (right unit if you looked at front stoop). Had dark green carpet.

When I moved to Cols in 87 Gyros were $.75 at that place above BW3. I see them regularly now for $8.99. That's a big difference when a job might make you $5hr then vs $8 now
@SBha303 жыл бұрын
Lol! I remember that place. Gyros were $1 back in 1987. I would go there really late if I was starving walking from the library. I think they had a bunch of pool tables. The gyros spindle would sit on the floor in a corner and this old fat Greek guy would pick it up and put it on the table and turn it on. I think the meat would be on it covered with aluminum foil. No concern for food safety back then - lol.

I was born in 1999 in volumbus ohio, once the housing crash happened it started to get pretty bad in the hilltop, franklinton, southside, and some parts of the eastside. I grew uo in hilltop before i moved the the east coast, a house my family built in the 1920's is still standing on north burgess ave, i plan on moving back at some point. Hilltops gotten pretty bad over time but i dont mind.

I grew up a few miles north of the campus. I was 10 when this was shot, there was a good chance you might have seen me and my brother racing our bikes across High St. Things I would never let my kids do! 😅

Anyone know of an apartment building that was around this area ? It was three stories and three buildings, they each faced each other and were white. I think they were made out of concrete, concrete blocks. Devry university used this building for student housing, someone else owned it. You had to use an alley to gain entrance or entered it from the side. Devry called this place “ technician square” I went to school here in 1978.
