Concise, and to the important points video Jared.👍👍 Can you please tell me the process of how you rented from Alamo? Did you book before you got there or just went to the desk when you got there? What about the mandatory insurances etc?. $200 seems pretty cheap for 5 days. I'm heading out there for 10 days in August with the family and would appreciate any tips you have to offer.

They have pretty good deals on rental cars. You might find one for even less! I didn't add on the additional insurance, since my credit card (an AmEx) has international insurance. Otherwise, I would've added their insurance. DiscoverCars has the well-known national brands, plus local companies at SJO. I booked before going, making sure they offered free cancelation. Was the $200 without insurance? I'm being quoted about $360 for a midsized 4x4 for 5 days without insurance. My Amex include ins.

It can be dark on rural roads at night ... but it's not scary if you follow along with the map on your phone.

We ended up going with Alamo, but any of the companies would be fine. Most of them seem to rent small SUVs, which work great! I think we had a Toyota Rav4.

Your price quote on that rental was ridiculous, there is no way you paid $200 for five days.
