Driving in Malta: trying to get out of the city - plus my giant curb fail

Totaly lost: second day of our holiday in Malta, trying to get out of the urban zone around the capital Valletta. It's only the second day of me driving on the left, I have no gps. We randomly picked a beach to visit and we try to find the approximate direction just by looking at roadsigns. This was a problem because roadsigns in Malta are small, many times faded out by the sun and they are really late, which makes it hard to choose lanes. The map we had was also inadequate, but that was fixed the next day.
In the video you can see the segment in real time where I hit the curb really bad, I was very lucky I didn't have a puncture. Somehow in the first couple of days I really didn' feel the left side of the car, that was the strangest thing about driving on the "wrong side of the road" :))

My father did also have a rough day on his first time driving on the "wrong" side -he hit a curb, too, but at 40mph, so he blew a tyre and bent the wheel. I had my first left-hand traffic experience this summer and hit nothing, so I guess I'm on the lucky side!

Strangely the hardest part was "feeling" the left side of the car and using the central rear view mirror and other parts that are used in the same way as usual but on the other side.

I agree! Mastering what was going on with the left side was also hard for me.

Oooh, I winced at the 6 minute 42 second mark. I hope there wasn't much damage, if anything. It's easy to happen, even if you're on a narrow road, with nowhere to go, and there's an oncoming car or truck, and you have no stopping or turning off room. It happened to me in Sarajevo, oncoming car, taking up most of the road, I checked the footpath, and put my car over the kerb to avoid a head on, even though I was at a crawl speed. I was lucky there was no damage.

Too bad the music is muted, well I was going to do my first car trip in almost 20 years to Alaska this summer but I'm helping take care of my senior parents and a couple of days before my trip my Mom had a bad fall, she's coming along OK and I had to put off the trip til next summer.

Signs are a bit better now.....You where just driving around in circles , why didn't you stop and ask the way ??? or buy a better map ??
