Minnesota's North Shore is one long scenic drive. Most of the tourists go east of Duluth, MN so the highway 61 leading up to Ontario is rarely busy and you've got all the beauty to yourself. This is a special part of Minnesota and the country with its spotty fogs and low clouds, small port towns and lake lighthouses. Not too long of a ride about 150 miles from Duluth to the Canadian border but you'll see a plenty of sights, minimalistic natural beauty of the higher latitudes, endless forests tenderly covered by the clouds. Around the furthest end in Grand Portage the road becomes almost mystical with the foggy swamps on both sides of the driveway, flat colors and the cooler weather.
Overall the drive is pleasant, relaxing and rewarding. Go if you have an extra day!
Thanks and enjoy!
