Odd that the most noticeable change after almost 40 years was the styling of the automobiles and commercial vehicles driving on the roads

Well, except the absence of HOV lanes, completely different downtown Bellevue skyline (14:39), absent Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland (25:00), and generally more undeveloped, rural appearance of the lands past the shoulders. Also, more VW beetles.

It's crazy seeing Skyline and City Hall as dominant features in Bellevue. But it's also crazy how much of 405 hasn't changed in the last 40 years (especially the I-90 interchange). It's no wonder some of the choke points are so bad at this point.

As I stated to a complainer - Before the video stablization - and even with the old analog vido - I love it. So much is the same and so much has changed. Same with the I 90 through Mercer Island one. Thanks

Having burnt a lot of brake and clutch (not to mention hundreds of hours of time) on the section between Tukwila and Bellevue, not particularly surprised that (except the missing HOV lane) it's identical, except the cars are actually moving.

AAAHHHH 1983, I was a 21-year-old dude, young, beautiful, and carefree. I bought a used 1976 British racing green, German-made 4 speed stick shift Mercury Capri, and was on top of the world. I have lost count as to how many escapades the vinyl rear seat of that Capri had witnessed.

Not always, there are some extra lanes that exist now (such as the turnoff for the 167) that weren't built yet Also, the infamous "s-curves" that were straightened in the 90s are still there in this video

@@GTAIVisbest which part of the s-curves were straightened? It looks like the highway follows pretty much the same path as today, I still call them the s-curves and I usually hear others refer to them as the same.

Yeah, because in a moderately-sized impact the whole thing would look like a mangled cube of metal. You WERE the crumple zone. Nowadays you can get hit at 100mph by a semi and still walk out mostly OK. They also were carbureted, spat raw gasoline and emissions out the tailpipe and got 12MPG They were prettier, though, I'll give you that.

Funny enough the highways barely look different in most of the video. It seems all they've done in 40 years is add an HOV lane and modernize a couple sections. Everything else around the highway changed completely though. Your tax dollars hard at work.
