The Palos Verdes Peninsula (from Spanish Palos Verdes "Green sticks") is a landform and a geographic sub-region of the Los Angeles metropolitan area, within southwestern Los Angeles County in the U.S. state of California. Located in the South Bay region, the peninsula contains a group of affluent cities in the Palos Verdes Hills, including Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills and Rolling Hills Estates. The South Bay city of Torrance borders the peninsula on the north, the Pacific Ocean is on the west and south, and the Port of Los Angeles is east. As of the 2010 Census, the population of the Palos Verdes Peninsula is 65,008.
The hill cities on the peninsula are known for dramatic ocean and city views, distinguished schools, extensive horse trails, and high value homes.

From what I understand the Palos Verdes Peninsula was an Island millions of years ago and slammed into the mainland. If you have better understanding of this process please comment.

Thanks for the memories although you skipped North & East and the fog had rolled in! I left the area in '63, if I hadn't attended all the PVHS Class of '64 reunions, I would never have recognized it! You went down PV Dr W & S twice and edited out the Portuguese Bend Whoop-de-Doos the first time and a few the 2nd time. And I didn't notice one road rules infraction for the whole 30 minutes!

It is often foggy. There is a lighthouse that, while still functional, no longer sounds the fog horn. I really miss that sound.

dont be mislead..i live there for over 22 years..my business was here had to live there...nice place if you are into Prius drivers and bicycles the people here suck big time..stuffy unfriendly people..my next door neighbor has lived there for over 5 years i dont even know his name. its a liberal utopia..as i write this i am in the final stages to buy a house a in Tennessee.. call me gone.
