I grew up in the 70s and 80s here and I can remember when the blue bubble on top of the Hyatt Regency was the tallest building. In the late 80s I worked on Spring Street in Midtown and watched the IBM tower being built. So much has changed but it has always been amazing.

By the way I-75/85 are conjoined thru midtown and downtown. It's called the downtown connector. They don't separate until you get closer to the airport. And you have never been able to see the capitol dome coming from the north. You can if you're coming in from the south. The Peachtree plaza tower, 191 Peachtree tower, and the Georgia pacific building, among others, block the view from the north as those towers have been up since the 70s,80s,and 90s.

Atlanta traffic sucks. Otherwise it's a great town. I'm retired and live 40 miles west of Atlanta, just south of I-20 in Carrollton. I really like it there. Don't have to deal with Atlanta traffic! I moved from Michigan to Georgia 25 years ago. Atlanta is a bit too far away if you have to commute to work from Carrollton, but close enough to go to a concert or to the farmers market or other things that Carrollton doesn't have, which isn't much that they don't have, pretty self sufficient town. I lived in 3 other places around Atlanta before settling in Carrollton.

That's because when we were kids the people in atlanta were FROM Atlanta, were from the south. Now the people are mostly transplants from the north and other parts of the country so they know nothing of southern hospitality and act accordingly. That's just my opinion. But yea I agree the new breed of people, the sheer volume of people and the resulting traffic issues and other issues makes atlanta less appealing than when I was a kid and would travel with my grandparents from the panhandle of Florida (up US 331 in Alabama to Montgomery, then up I-85 North thru Auburn/Opelika, like you referenced, and other towns).

I don't know what the number is now, but by April of this year they had 15 road rage shootings. I am sure the number has gone up since then. I have never driven thru and not seen at least one fatal accident if not more. I avoid it if I can- usually drive hours out of our way. I've driven all over the country and it is one of, if not the worst.
@braves96522 жыл бұрын
That's very interesting because I have lived here all of my life. I'm a multigenerational resident here, drove downtown every day to go to work and I have never once seen a fatal wreck. Rarely do you meet an Atlanta native from here but when it was more common, before so many people from other parts of the country started moving here we didn't have any of those problems you are talking about.

The person who posted this, drove through Atlanta, a city he obviously knows nothing about, trash talked it then I notice he gave a "like" to only the people who are trash talking it. I have lived here all of my life, just like the generations before me. Many of us drove downtown from the suburbs, every day to work in Midtown and downtown and none of us have been a victim of crime. I have never known anyone who has. Maybe you should learn how to go to actual things the city has to offer because it sounds like you don't know how to avoid bad parts that are part of any town.
