Driving to Jebel Akhdar (9780 ft) from Muscat

Jebel Akhdar in Oman lies at the center of the Al Hajar range and is accessible only by a four wheel drive only. It’s a 2.5 hour drive from Muscat and the climb to the plateau after the security check is a steep 45 minute drive. Oman has a magnificent natural beauty all around - pristine beaches, Goliath mountains, sun kissed sand dunes, and in winters there’s snow in the mountain range of Jebel Shems

Hi Tina We are travelling to Oman in December from Mumbai. Could you pls share which car is best of jebel Akhdar , wahiba sands and Al ain sahban

Hi, there are plenty of car rentals available, for Jebel Akhdar you will need a 4*4, any other won’t work and for Wahiba if you are driving upto the dunes again a 4*4 is a must. In any case, any 4*4 is a better option. There’s a security checkpoint at Jebel Akhdar base, they only permit 4*4 to go up the mountain.

Hi Ahmed, is there any specific information you are looking for? I mean, it’s about 2.5 hour drive from Muscat, you will need a 4*4. There are a couple of hotels there if you are planning for a night stay, if you like camping then you can find a spot anywhere up on the mountains, wild camping is allowed in Oman. You can also stopover at Nizwa and stroll around the local souq.
