Just returned from a week driving all over the island. Many locals drive in the middle of the road until someone comes the other way. They also honk. One means hello, two means either thanks or is an alert on a blind turn and three means F you. Roads can be very steep and windy with sharp turns and virtually no street signs. Navigating can be a challenge even with GPS. There are only a few highways that travel around and through so that helps but you always have the feeling you’re going in a circle. The opposite side was challenging at times since we always look left for traffic. My friends sometimes had to remind me to get on the other side after a turn or needing to course adjust. You see drivers doing crazy things but most people are patient.

Going in a few weeks and I’m thinking driving is going to be crazy. I’ve driven on many differnt roads and cars that were left hand drive and right hand drive but never drove a left hand drive car on the left side. It’s def gonna take some getting used to. It’s an easy task if the car was right hand drive.

I am here now for my spring break and I wish I watched this before I came! It's my first time here and I didn't know they drive on the left here but am used to driving on both sides but still driving here is a challenge especially since most outer roads are not GPS friendly so I had to get a map to get around and that's what am using. Thanks for this, helped me a lot and increased my enjoyment here. Loving it all the way!!

@@intheknow1332 Thanks. You are right, I got used to it very fast. Spent a week there and survived. It wasn't bad until my wife insisted we climb to the Mountain Top Gift Shop. Scary climb up that big hill but it was worth it. Spectacular view from up there, we could see the entire Megans Bay Beach.

Even though I'm from Malaysia (which drive on the left side of the road) I don't think my parents can handle this if they wanna drive the car. Well just hope there is RHD cars there.

There’s RHD buses but low floor or with front door behind it’s front wheel of the bus in USVI.

Well, the reason it's slightly more risky is because folks are also steering from the left side of the vehicle. It'd be no biggy whatsoever if they were also driving/steering on the right side of the vehicle too, but instead you're a few extra feet away from accurately focusing directly at oncoming traffic and lane markings. It's really not a big deal, but I wouldn't be surprised if accident rates are somewhat higher here than back in the states for similarly designed roads and speed limits.

@@FreewayBrent Firstly, I want to thank you for explaining that out. I actually didn't remember this comment at all. I got my L about a year ago now, and I've finally learned so much MORE about driving and driving laws. I did recently learn it's important to be in the right lane, left driver side and vice versa for safety reasons. However, when I was in St. Thomas (just the port, on vacay) I didn't catch or know that they get so many US imports and drive on the left side AND lane. I understand now, and I agree... It's probably a little dangerous there. I wouldn't want that as my first road trip lol.

Most of it’s vehicles are US imports. BTW, driving JDM trucks and cars in Guam and Palau at the right side of the road.

There’s also US pickup trucks converted into 25 seater bus but it’s bed of pickup truck converted with rear seats and exit at the left side.
