As a Carlton supporter these videos are amazing. I started following Carlton 45 years ago when my best friends father introduced me to his mate Alex Jesaulenko in his lounge room one Saturday afternoon in Canberra when i was a kid. The Blues have been my religion ever since, the last couple of decades have been a bit lean but no matter what my heart still pumps with navy blue blood. Wayne and all the other players are legends. Fantastic entertainment for a blue bagger..thank you Sam. One day the sleeping giant will wake from its slumber and regain the throne that was once Carltons.

That would have been amazing being introduced to Alex! He's my all-time favourite Carlton player. Which year was that in do you remember and did Jezza talk to you much?

I am a supporter of a arch rival club, these videos are brilliant, no bad mouthing other clubs or people, just all things Carlton which is fair enough, all clubs play apart of each others story.

I loved Harmsy, I watched him as a kid at a Carlton Vs St Kilda game and he was chasing a player towards he boundary, and as he was chasing the player, he tapped him on his left waist and then on the right and then again on the left. That player had no idea where Harmsy was and just brought the ball over the boundary, he didn't ever try to turn left or right to get away from Harms. Don't see those skills these days. I always will remember him and hope he reads this because I don't just remember him for that one incident in 79 GF, but for all his great skills and games he helped Carlton win many flags during one of their best reigns ever.

l was sitting straight above the "incident" with the old scoreboard behind me. As a coll.supp. l watched and took a mental photograph as he hit the ball off the boundary line. I all but stood up and applauded. My position was that of a test cricket camera ie creating that slower perspective of movement. The ball hit the ground and rolled perpendicular toward the line. It was super wet... the ball slowed quickley... Harmes slid in persuit literally parting the water with his barrel chest (seriously) As the ball reached the boundry line it stood up on end, in a moment of suspended animation he twisted as he hit the ball and well... lm really glad that he knows the truth because to fob it off a cheating collingwood joke does not do it justice... P.S after all these years great to get it off my chest...

So it was definitely in? I've always thought he got there but have only ever seen it from the TV camera angle, which was behind him. The soccer goal Wayne refers to is Geoff Hurst's second (and England's third) goal in the 1966 World Cup Final. The ball hit the underside of the crossbar, hit the ground and bounced back out. But if you think about it, a round ball hitting the crossbar would've put backspin on it, so when it hit the ground it would bounce back out into play even if it bounced over the goal line. That company who investigated Harmes' tap would've used the same technology, triangulation etc, to prove whether the ball was over the boundary line or not, so I'm glad they put both those incidents to bed once and for all!

Left out the bit where he was a Tiger supporter growing up as his maternal grandfather was Len Smith, Richmond coach of the mid 60s.

Very true. He barracks for Richmond and personally told me that.

@@richardcrockford1754 If Richmond had him back in that era they may've won more flags, eg. 1982 GF. He was a genuine match winner back then, injuries ruined him later on.

Harmesy not quite correct on the Sun Kick. It was held on the day of the 1976 second semi final (Carl v Haw) at VFL Park, I think during half-time of the reserves game. It was raining, weather terrible and he was wearing a Carlton jumper. All participants were 'representing' some club. He launched two massive torps that easily won the comp. I was only a kid myself, but little did we know that he would soon become a legend of the club.
