If that had been a 2011 ISF against the 2011 M3, the ISF would probably have gone at least 3 second faster due to the Torsen LSD added to the ISF in 2010 and the major suspension changes for 2011. Those two changes made a 7 second (!!!) difference in the 2008 vs 2011 ISF's lap time around VIR. That's why you could see the 2009 ISF in the video had trouble putting power down out of the corners with its open rear diff and less than optimal 2008-2010 ISF suspension. @@matthewnicholas6365 The ISF has always just had the base model... never a higher performance variant like BMW did with the M3. Why would an ISF vs M3 GTS head to head make more sense? All I was pointing out from the beginning is that Lexus made a few changes in 2010 and 2011 that fixed some flaws that made it less competitive. Put a 2008 ISF against a 2008 M3 on the track and the M3 is quicker...put a 2011 ISF against a 2011 M3 on the track and it's a toss up.

Also ISF guy’s vanos joke was a little dated, vanos was a major issue on the previous gen E46 M3, the E9x’s S65 is actually one of the most reliable M engines. Only weakpoint was the mentioned rod bearings (do them once and forget about it for peace of mind, or regular oil analysis) and throttle actuators (which the later isn’t even that serious, wont cause engine failure just a low power limp mode).

The e92 m3 wasn't even being sold in 2014. You can't compare it to a later developed car. Compare it to the f80 m3 if you want to talk about 2014+cars. The e90 m3 came out in 2008. Thats 6 years before 2014

E9x chassis (and I mean chassis not suspension) is one of a kind. It is one of the best balanced, earth planted chassis ever made, even on a stock suspension. So with a decent coil-over setup it can be impossible to compete it even with a faster car from the same segment.

My money was on the E90 for sure, especially when i saw the ISF was a pre 2010 model year. @@robstyles2675 the loss was not because of a lack of power. This really came down to the ISF not being able to get down power out of corner exits w/ an open diff. a 2010 + w/ the same setup would close the gap without a doubt. But, i still think the E90 would edge out a tad. Also remember the E9x M3's (coupe & sedan ) are slightly lighter cars compared to the ISF. 3715 according to BMW USA & 3800lbs for the ISF

It seems ISF’s owners got way too triggered by it being an 08. I currently own an E90 M3 and im in the process of selling it to get an IS. The ISF, no matter which year 08,10,13.. will NEVER be as good as a performance car as the M3 without modifications done to the chassis. I would know..I was dead set on getting an ISF. I managed to test an LSD equipped model right before getting my M3.. the motor is incredible, torque absolutely everywhere (more akin to a C63) when the M3 requires a lot more input to get the car moving, the chassis however is noticeably softer under load and the gearbox feels sterile under 5000rpm. The DCT box is lightyears ahead. The only redeeming factor it has over the M3 are the factory Brembo’s which are admittedly a very impressive factory item. That being said, the reliability point is *VERY* valid, my M3 has been relatively reliable (in the 50k miles I have put on it) with the only problems being Throttle Actuators and some really annoying plastic parts going wrong leaving me stranded. As a daily streetcar the ISF is a more solid choice, but anyone who says the ISF is a better Sports car than the M3 are just lying to themselves. Both are fantastic vehicles with clear advantages depending on what your purpose is. The interior of the IS also feels much more cramped than the M3 so there is that. For me the M3 will always occupy a special place in my heart and I would never pick an ISF over it when it comes to driving hard.

@@ali_ing069 The S38 is in my eyes the best engine bmw ever built. It is also unobtainium and to me it belongs in an E30 or E36, but we're talking V8 here and bmw can't touch toyota in reliability. The S65 is a cool engine but it's also failure prone and stupid expensive to build. The S62 was better but again expensive to maintain and build. Lexus V8's are plentiful and overengineered. Hell, even a LS swap would make more sense than an S65. I would only consider a S65 swap in an older bmw chassis, again E30 or E36 or something like a 1 series. I am suggesting a lexus swap coz he obviously can't afford an M3 so that swap (or an LS swap) would give him many V8 benefits with much lower maintenance and swap costs to a S65.
