The reason the Tacoma and Maverick have similar ground clearance ratings is because they measure ground clearance from the lowest point. On the Tacoma, that means the bottom of the rear differential. On the Maverick, that means the entire underbelly surface since it's basically just a giant flat plate.. Which is why the Tacoma appears so much taller...because it is at basically every single point besides the bottom of the rear pumpkin. Which is why its breakover and actual useable clearance is so much higher.

I have a Tacoma and I spend most of my time on the highway. I am 5,11 and it is one of the most comfortable vehicles I have had out of many, including full size trucks. Because of the high floor height, you can stretch your legs out all the way, they don’t have to be bent all the time because you are sitting higher like in other trucks. I have never had a truck that I can extend my legs completely straight while driving. Also, there are many spots you can put your feet and you can even sit cross legged. I also find the Tacoma drives with little input needed in the expressway, it is just one finger on the wheel for the most part.

There is another recall on the Maverick which is the trailer brake control.
@Vorm172 жыл бұрын
That recall is across all Ford models, not just the Maverick. Currently the Maverick has had 3 recalls and all of them are only a portion of the units not all of them, with only one issue being severe across a few thousand. The Tacoma in its first model year had 4 in total, with two of them being pretty severe. The Maverick is still new and will probably have another recall or two, but recalls on first generation vehicles are very common among all manufacturers.

Interesting, so what you are saying is that for better road experience, quieter, better MPG and comfort go with a maverick (or any other unibody AWD SUV or cute “truck”)? And if you want something to go “off road” (which the fire road shown here was pretty elementary when comparing off-road capabilities, to be honest) go with a read 4WD truck? (Btw, using all of the “tools” the manufacture gives you isnt “cheating” since you are also using AWD in the other “truck”). And NO, driving “really fast off road” isn’t the only advantage of a Tacoma, that’s just one of many things, more challenging narrow jeep trails, Moab type slick rock, steep hill climbs, deep mud, deep snow, etc, etc. Oh, and when talking off road, the Raptor might be better for going “really fast” on an large area of dirt, that’s about all the raptor will excel in over the TRD pro (speaking of off roading only). No one takes raptors up tighter trails like Imogene and other “jeep trails” because they are waaaay too big.
@YellowstoneCountryFlyFishing2 жыл бұрын
All the comments about how this is an apples to oranges comparison are missing the point. This is a "Will the apple at a lot less money, easy parking, and better economy, 0-60, and on-road manners function as close to the off-road orange as I need?" For somebody like me who is trying to decide if a non-truck or crossover will do what I need it to do as well as my old truck-based SUV at 15mpg does now, these sorts of videos are great.
@Romans_Toupee2 жыл бұрын
you guys should start bringing a tape measure just so you can quickly look underneath and actually measure the clearance yourselves, when you say the Tacoma only has 1 extra inch of clearance, my guess is thats only the rear differential, which the Ford doesnt have. Look at the amount of clearance underneath where the front skid plate is on both trucks and im willing to bet its a LOT more than just 1 inch, which was pretty evident in that breakover shot where the Maverick just barely went over without scraping the belly
@ALMX5DP2 жыл бұрын

Great video. The Toyota will always be superior in reliability. Personally for a pickup I need body on frame. Unibodies aren’t designed for hauling wood, gravel, dirt like the traditional body on frame. We own a 11 Ranger XLT 4X4 Super Cab with the 4 liter V6 & 5 spd auto tranny. Last year we drove it to MT to get a load of stuff from the farm. Coming home, we put 50 lbs of air in the rear shocks so the truck would drive level. I set the cruise on 85 through MT and got 24mpg. I added a K&N intake and a Flow Master exhaust. Prior to the upgrades, I could only get 19-21 empty on my Ford. I love Ford pickups, but Toyota is a better option for reliability and depreciation.

As a former Tacoma owner there’s some things you learn, like don’t use cruise control, make sure the dealership updates the tsb, tall people don’t belong in small or mid sized vehicles, you can regulate your fuel mileage but watching your speed, typically 60-65 mph gets 22+ mpg, and definitely don’t use cruise control ever unless you’re made of money and want 10-12 mpg.
