Forgive my ignorance, but what is the reasoning behind the funnel / tube he was working through? Seems it would have been much easier without it. 🤷‍♂
@KayoEll
@KayoEll 6 ай бұрын
In theory, it helps to dilate the ear canal (hold it open a bit so it's bigger), and to a smaller extent, reflects the light the make it brighter. In this particular case, it doesn't appear to me that it is far enough in the canal to be helping dilate the canal at all, and I agree it's more in the way than anything. I also would have instilled the oil directly into the ear (although I typically use medical-grade olive oil spray, which is easier to work with) rather than putting the oil in through the speculum (the term for the metal funnel). I wasn't there, though, so I don't know what it looked like in person, just what it looked like through the images.

Why do some use the funnel and others don't? Is it just preference?
@drjent3350
@drjent3350 3 жыл бұрын
Great question. There are a few options for looking into an ear canal. The endoscope allows you to go inside the ear with but has limitations. The microscope looks into the canal from the outside so a funnel "ear speculum" is need to see inside the ear canal. I hope that explains the difference. I plan to do a demonstration on each of these options side by side so people can see the difference. Thanks for watching.

@drjent3350

No! Ear wax builds up in the external ear, then there is the middle ear behind the ear drum and then beyond that is the inner ear. The balance systems are in the inner ear.
