Adam Lambert is awesome and he doesn’t ever try to imitate. He always interprets the lyrics himself and you always get Adam’s version. Thank you for your analysis. You seem very knowledgeable.

There's another difference between Freddie Mercury and Adam Lambert, and one people never seem to notice: how well or not words are pronounced while singing. If you compare Queen's original Live Aid gig just to use one easy example, and the Queen performances with Adam Lambert, where you will hear that Freddie Mercury often doesn't sing the last few letters of words in lyrics whereas AL does. This is more than likely because of AL's years of theatre training/performing where you are taught how well to pronounce words to ensure that people in every corner of a theatre understands what is being said/sung. I only noticed the difference between both once I found out about Adam Lambert in the Netflix documentary (I was a "No Queen without Freddie" but have since been converted into a giant AL fan)

I have watched tons of the 70s and 80s concert and never noticed that. Good catch. I was like you and only listened to the original recordings and concerts, especially after the Paul Rodgers stint. It wasn't until they released Live Around the World that I took notice, and I am so glad I did. Adam Lambert is a fantastic vocalist. I have even been enjoying his whole Velvet album and some songs from his other albums. Kinda sad I have been sleeping for so long on his talent. But I'm making up for lost time now.

You need to see Adam live. He's usually moving and dancing and running all over the stage and it doesn't take anything away from his vocal performance.

PS: Thank you for pointing out that he doesn't try to imitate Freddie. It's what I've seen the older Queen fans realize within the first 2 songs and they ALWAYS walk out of the venue with huge smiles on their faces. They get it, once they've seen QAL live on stage.

Adam made the decision when he first started working with Queen in 2012 to stop listening to the recordings (Brian & Roger told him to make the songs his own), and he worked with instrumentals recorded by their keyboardist Spike (who has been with Queen since the 80s when Freddie decided to focus on performance for their live shows). the documentary The Show Must Go On, the Queen & Adam Lambert Story is highly illuminating regarding their history.

Great reaction. So glad you mentioned that Adam wasn’t trying to compare to Freddie. A lot of reviews keep wanting to say “he’s no Freddie” and we’re like duh, he’s not trying to be. I agree with other comment - please do review on isle wight festival “who wants to live forever”.

I really enjoyed the singing tips throughout, especially at the end: "sound technicians and mics should take care of the decibel level, you as a singer take care of the QUALITY of sound." Yes! That's why I admire Adam Lambert so much. He doesn't shout when singing, his voice never sounds strained, even when he is being at his most intense. Even when he adds distortion, I get the feeling like he is simply adding a layer to a clean, pure base, and he can remove that extra layer at any time. Whereas some singers (who haven't got a good technique like him) even if they're able to sing high or intensely or with distortions, you actually hear them straining, shout-singing and tearing their voices. Adam Lambert can do this rock song and than turn around and sing with pure round bright crystal-clear sound-- and for both, his throat is relaxed, there is no strain, makes it look like he can do it in his sleep. And yes, we all have our preferences, but that is why, objectively speaking, Adam Lambert is the best singer I've ever heard.

Re: Adam's movement on stage - in the documentary The Show Must Go On, Roger mentions Adam's awareness of the camera, causing me to think Adam helped him and Brian to better 'play' with the cameras. I've noticed that Adam and Brian have their moves choreographed to showcase the 'active' performer at any given time.

The patern is made before concerts. But I think there are two Adam´s version - Adam´s TV version, when he is always more stiff and less playful and the pure concert version when he is running around the whole stage and playing and doing all sorts of funny things and sexy dance and all his provocations. And in my mind I always see the poor camera man who is trying just to keep Adam in the picture from his waist up :DDD

I'm not even a singer and I loved your reaction, analysis and advice. It helped me to hear you describe where the sounds sit in the mouth and throat. I'm going to try to pay more attention when I'm talking (I'm a poet and read my work alot and don't want to sound boring). About your comment about Adam Lambert not moving around, he doesn't move much on this song, but in concert he really does use the entire stage. When the camera pulls back you can see how big the stage is and that it includes a catwalk. And actually he and Brian May together are often using it and playing off each other. He also knows how to use a camera better than alot of rock musicians do, which I think is due to his stage training. You might want to check out Queen+AL Who Wants to LIve Forever - Live at the Isle of Wight.

Why is every analysis always positive for every "critic"? I have never found a critical/negative review here on KZbin and similar channels. From this one can conclude that either all the singers are great or it's about clicks from the respective fans who just want their opinion confirmed and give it a thumbs up.

if he can imitate a Freddie Mercury fairly well, then he's a damn good singer. That aside, I don't trust him or QUAL to achieve those results without bringing today's sound technology to the stage. Send them all on tour only "armed" with the technology of the time and then we'll see whether they can even come close to being able to hold a candle to the singers of the time, who mostly wrote their hits themselves.
