Our daughter had been given one super dose of metronidazole for a std and for a month an a half her life turned in to a non stop panic attack. Seriously. Doc, psychiatrist, neurologist, e.r., everyone said it couldn't be the metro, it was out of her system. The psych finally put her on Zoloft a month in , which finally let her sleep more than two hours a day. She couldn't work, hardly are and couldn't participate in life. We finally did our own research and discovered metro caused severe thiamine deficiency. The minute we got her up to 600 mg thiamine hcl, all symptoms left. Back to work three months after this nightmare started. Our family will never think of anxiety the same way. Diet has so much to do with how we think and feel. Thanks for all your work and how you share it with us.

Wow, that is a fascinating story, JC! Isn't it interesting that all those doctors, ones we are taught to respect and trust their opinions (the doctor, psychiatrist and neurologist) were all wrong! Glad she is better.

I was put on a course of moxifloxicin (a strong fluoroquinolone type antibiotic) for a serious middle ear infection, after taking it for just 2 days I went into the most horrific state of panic attack imaginable, it was traumatic and pretty much gave me PTSD, that was months ago but I'm still trying to get over it, the panic attack slowly stopped once I discontinued the moxifloxicin but it has left me with an oversensitised nervous system in a constant state of high anxiety. The doctors pretty much shrugged off my suggestion that the moxifloxicin may have caused the panic and anxiety, but it just seems too coincidental and the safety information for moxifloxicin even says that it can cause extreme agitation, anxiety, and the risk of wanting to cause harm to yourself or others.

While a lot of anxiety is from or made worse by gut, diet or thyroid problems, lack of sleep etc. but many, many people have anxiety from childhood or adult trauma and this should be taken into account in the person's evaluation. Dr Hyman mentions this briefly, but then they don't reiterate it.

20:00 this is exactly what was happening to me 1 year ago. I was having breathing episodes that would last 30 minutes where I felt like I wasn't getting enough oxygen. During the episodes, my stomach would descend out a lot. I was extremely depressed and would sometimes get horrible leg cramps along with leg twitches. I had a really bad diet for about a year prior and a lot of stress from my job. I went to emergency room once because of a bad breathing episodes, I told them about my work stress and super bad diet of lots of sugar & carbs and that I often ate too much and before going to bed. I told them that I thought I had a digestive issue. They took some exrays of my liver, pancreas and kidney. No issues there. They did blood work. My glucose was elevated but they said no issues with my blood test. So, they diagnosed me with hypertension and anxiety. Soon after, I saw my primary doctor who just said it was anxiety and as most doctors do, tried to prescribe anti-anxiety meds. I thought that the doctors were missing the real cause and felt that they weren't going to be able to help me so I had to try and help myself. I did a lot of research and figured I may have an overload of bad bugs in my gut and possibly leaky gut along with inflammation and nutrient deficiencies. I decided to go on an anti-inflammatory diet and to implement minerals and vitamins. I also quit my high stress job. This is what saved me! Within 1 month my symptoms were gone. I no longer listen to everything doctors tell me without doing my own research as well. I don't really blame my doctor. He's a "15 minutes doctor" They don't or can't spend enough time with each patient to really get to the bottom of things.

I had a botched surgery that has left me in constant, 24/7, horrific pain. 1) the doktor wouldn't take responsibility for his mistake, which hurt me to the core. This attitude is causing panic attacks. 2.) the actual pain causes panic attacks. 3) the doktor got on top of me and broke my nose, which he denies doing. PSTD and nightmares. I was awake during the surgery, but I was given a drug that made it impossible for me to talk or move. IF I could have gotten up and escaped, I would have. Yes, I tried getting an attorney but without $85K to get other doctors to testify, I was out of luck. It's a Brotherhood that's taking it's toll on those of us who were victims of their medical malpractice. I just want to feel better. Thanks for all you do for us Dr Hyman and guests.

I only 'discovered' Dr Hyman this year. Best thing that's happened to me, but he's clearly so passionate about his chosen field (which is brilliant for us listeners) but he doesn't enunciate his words, which makes it difficult for us non-USA citizens to understand him. This video is in 2020 so, at least in those days, although he still spoke quite fast, he was intelligible. Now, in 2024, he speaks so incredibly fast that I have to change my video settings to slow down his speech. The constant interrupting of his guests, where they end up talking over one another, makes things even more unintelligible. In spite of all this, I still listen to his podcasts because he has so much knowledge, but I must admit, they end up giving me anxiety (NOT the result either of us want I'm sure!) bc of how fast he speaks and the constant interruptions.

I have learned that if you want to be helped, help yourself… Treat doctors as consultants and not as all knowing gurus… A good doctor will get things right most of the time but it’s important to do your own research and trust your gut feelings… Sadly wholistic medicine is ridiculously expensive. It’s not affordable for most people.

The cause of these mental illness problems is MSG. Glutamate attach to glutamate receptors along your GI tract. Once these receptors are triggered by free glutamate it trigger entero endocrine cells in your GI to release and deplete Serotonin levels in the gutt. Took me 12 yrs to figure out this because I have major depression and an auto immune disease that was caused by MSG. Msg is in everything. You would be shocked to find out how many food products have MSG. Even the chicken you buy at the store is injected with MSG salt solution to increase size and weight of the packaged chicken you buy at the store. All chips, canned beans and tuna, sauces, marinades, meats, and even the pop corn you buy at movie theater has MSG. And it's the reason why so many people suffer from depression in this country. Diabetes and obesity also caused by MSG.

Thank you I appreciate the tip. I rarely, if ever ,eat fast food. I only eat lean meats and veggies. I still satisfy some cravings now and then mostly with dark chocolate. I exercise everyday, but still have issues with anxiety. I hope I can figure this out one day.

@@enriquefidler1813 have you checked your adrenals? Anxiety, depression usually appear in stage 3 of adrenal fatigue. Balancing my blood sugars and taking a selenium supplement healed my anxiety. But I still have chronic fatigue, cold intolerance etc due to my Hashimoto. I used to sleep with xanax. Not anymore.

I had a lot of anxiety until I recieved treatment for my hypothyroidism. The shame is that my doctor pushed psychiatric meds on me before I was treated for the hypothyroidism and that treatment caused me to gain a lot of weight and worsen my hypothyroidism.

Interesting. I was given anti-depressants and then had my thyroid go out of wack which then increased my anxiety and then they gave me anti anxiety meds.....vicious circle until I figured out what was really going on because lord knows my Western Doc didnt help me. On another note I took high doses of Icelandic Sea Kelp and with in a month my thyroid was improving and after 3 months it was back to normal!

Can you do a conversation on that topic please? As a health coach and yoga instructor I'm constantly learning from people like you and other resources and my lifestyle habits are probably in the top 10% of Americans. I'm perplexed by my condition! Dr. Hyman, your Doctor's Farmacy conversations mean the world to me and those I share them with. We deeply appreciate your work.

It could "just" be induced by the frequencies, there are patents for remote manipulation of the nervous system and inducing so-called "tinnitus". We're never allowed to know what these frequencies we're forced to try to live in are doing to us. Instead we just get gaslighted and mocked when we mention this stuff.
