When I was a kid, I asked a motorcycle rider if he had ever crashed and he said, "kid, there are only two kinds of bikers, those who have crashed, and those who are going to crash." The same goes with drones. It's not if, it's when. And that's why these are so darkly funny, because we all know we've either been there or will be there, and it takes a bit of the sting out knowing at the very least, we can send the footage to Ken. And Ken, you commentary and sound effects make these worthy of some kind of award that hasn't been invented yet.

What you said about yaw and roll being so hard for people to understand at first finally made me understand how these crashes happen. I was a top 100 fighter pilot and chopper pilot on Battlefield 3 on PS3 so I had a fair amount of experience "flying" on a controller, although I flew inverted. So when I got my first drone I immediately knew how to fly except I had to learn regular flight rather than inverted. I never once even considered people confusing yaw with roll or vis versa when I see the crash videos. I've never crashed a drone so I just don't understand how people crash going in straight lines like most of the videos you see being posted in drone groups. What I really don't understand is the people who crash during an orbit and really bet on their $1k+ drone saving them with obstacle avoidance.

@@KenHeron I did buy one for my bro. He's a graphic artist and had a DJI something, but lack of funds meant he had to sell it. So when my finances allowed I got him a somewhat cheaper one for his birthday 6 months later. Can't even remember what it was now. But I included 2 extra batteries and prop guards etc.

A lot of those crashes are very familiar. Most of my flying is under and around trees at high speed, so I get very closely acquainted with trees and the ground pretty often. Fortunately the drones I fly are designed to handle hard crashes and I very rarely have any real damage. I love these things. 😊
