What expectations did you have getting into the drone fishing scene?

Hi Tim Our Reality is somewhat different - We have been out several times now and catch multiple fish every time during the New Zealand winter and spring You are right we do a bit of research every time we go out- Tides -Wind-Fishing Calendar-Varying distance of drops etc It really makes a difference We were out on the East coast north of Auckland and both of us caught our bag limit of snapper The key is do your research

Hey Roger Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and comment mate!! At the time of production the research I gathered was alot of people asking for spots, not knowing where to fish and reports of people who had tried many times and had no success. Of course the location globally is going to favour some more than others, I believe the waters around NZ especially in the Northern island are great waters that hold alot of fish alot of thr time. Australian waters have been fished rather heavily and I believe this with the increased activity of sharks are a result of the lack of consistency when it comes to the landbased fisherman having success. I guess the message I was trying to deliver was its not accurate to expect the fishing to be better for you just because your now using a drone and can access waters that weren't reachable before.

I feel like the egg beater I have is going to be a pain in the ass. Everytime I open it up in even light winds it just goes everywhere, tangle city. At what point should I just buy a different style
@Land2AirFishing3 жыл бұрын
Are you using braid or mono to fill your spool? I get this problem when I run like 10metres of 60lb wind on monofilament, it jumps off the spool when I open the bale arm
@ChurchInAshes3 жыл бұрын
@@Land2AirFishing it's mono. I bought 50lb braid yesterday and it will be my first time using braid ever so hopefully it's not tangle city like my mono line was.

Splash drone 3 from swellpro has camera and waterproof. Cutacopta is a South African water proof drone. I really appreciate the videos and lessons that you give us. I just started drone fishing last week and love the lessons. If ever you in Durban then look let me know

Cheers Tim. enjoyed it again mate. Well after many months, I finally tested out your release mechanism and did a couple of drops yesterday. I had been waiting to get enough experience and after doing plenty of homework, some training with Aviassist and logging some flying hours I tested the gear out at Preston Beach. I love the simplicity of it all. I only managed 2 drops, one in daylight and one on dark as I only have 2 x batteries and I did some flying practice first. I used one of your rig set ups with 2 x hooks with a mulies on one and a half mullet on the other plus a 6oz tinker and found myself right on the weight limit for my Phantom 3 4k. Thats in good conditions too so I might need to limit sinker weight to 4oz. Also ordered some triple blade graphite props top see if that will give me any more lift (already using graphite2 blade props). Only issues I had with my first session were that I never mad my target drop of 200 mtrs because my line was catching in the spool and this caused the bait to release before I made target distance. I'll sort this one easy enough with practice and run my spools out so they come off smoother. One other issue I had was horrible tangling on the first drop and I think this was because I never reeled enough line back in after the drop which allowed weed to tangle in some loose braided mainline. Its all a learning curve!!! A bit mote practice and I'll hopefully have some fish photos from a trip to Port Gregory-Kalbarri area end of this month. I definitely reckon I need a minimum 4 x batteries to fish 2 rods and that's with a charger set up in in my car as well. 6 batteries would be better.

I couldn't agree more!!! I also have the release disconnect prematurely if the line is not only the spool smoothly so at least we know if there's a jam or something goes wrong the system will release. I had a 6oz sinker, slab of mullet and a mullet head on last night and it was a bit too heavy to fly out at speed without it disconnecting. I changed to a 4 oz and flew out a bit slower and once I was about 100m out I gave it full throttle and it held out nicely until I closed the bail. 4 batteries on constant rotation should be sufficient, I carry a fuel powered generator but will get an inverter once I have dual battery setup.
@robertgrayson33944 жыл бұрын
@@Land2AirFishing Cheers Tim, thats good to know and I agree would rather have everything release than have my drone swim with the fishes. I have ordered 2 more batteries last night, have inverter so all good there. Can you use the 100watt P4 charger on the P3 batteries? Its still a bit slow even using inverter with the std 57watt P3 charger. I am working on assumption of 1 drop per full charged battery to give some room for drama and play safe. Maybe stretch that once I have experience, does this sound about right?

@@robertgrayson3394 If possible just confirm the output voltage and current on the 2 chargers. To be honest im not 100% sure, I know LiPo batteries use high charging current so I dont want top say yes to that and then have it go peared shape on you on my advise. I retire my batteries at 40% so with 4 batteries cycling through on charge by the time you use your last battery your 1st should be fully charged and 2nd not far off. My Phantom 3 whilst loaded went into self landing mode at 38% as I lifted off and was about to start heading out...luckily it happened then and not 100m+ on my way out, would not have made it back to base. Also depends how often you check you baits and/or put fresh baits out as to whther your batteries wil be charged in time or not. I do know if using a multi charger your batteries charge slower as the current is being split across multiple cells, so might be good idea to only charge 2 at a time to minimise the effects of slow charging Rob.
@robertgrayson33944 жыл бұрын
@@Land2AirFishing Cheers Tim, I think 40% works for me which at the rate I am moving at moment will be one drop per battery till I get better at it in which case i am sure 2 or more will be fine. I'f do some research on the chargers but P4 outputs 100w and similar battery so might be some scope there. Will be less of an issue with 4 or more batteries anyway.

@@robertgrayson3394 if your doing 250m - 300m drops you should get 3 drops easily...if your using return to home you probably won't get a 4th drop on the same battery
