A Bradley costs over 4 million dollars as a point of reference. A Leopard 2 costs well over 11 million. If you can get these in fighting shape for half a million each, then you are bringing a lot of tank killing guns to the battlefield for not much money. To all the spec readers of wiki these tanks are best used in back up or training or even as mobile artillery, freeing up the better tanks for the tank on tank fights. They would be still more powerful than the APCs of Russia. Dig them in as gun emplacements in the defensive lines. Use them as recovery vehicles. They are mobile large guns that can fend off or at least bog down large numbers of Russian personnel.

The Rheinmetall 120 mm gun was created because of concerns about the inability of the 105-millimeter (4.1 in) L7 tank gun then in use across NATO forces to penetrate new Soviet armor, as proved in German tests on four T-62 Soviet tanks captured by Israel following the June 1967 Six Day War.

Ukraine really needs large numbers. So, a mix of say these Leopard Is and addition Abrams, Challengers, and Leopard IIs would likely be the ideal option! (to get to high numbers)

While not impossible, Ukraine already had experience with the tanks they were updating, as well as equipment and crews for them. Sending Leopard 1 would mean they would need to figure how to modify that tank for that conflict while training their crews at the same time. Also, there is a problem of ammunition and caliber. Leopard 1 and Challenger 1 fired 105mm rounds made to deal with armor from the 70s/80s. This means the tanks would need a new gun that could fit in the turret AND new munition, all of which would take at least MONTHS to develop in a country during peace time, let alone during war. Just send Abrams and Leopard 2 and Challenger 2.

The Leopard 1's and the US M-60A3's can do a hell of a lot of damage against the backwardAss Russian army, even with their 105mm main guns. Add reactive armor tiles to them, there is not going to be any great battle of Kurks, these tanks can bust through Russian trench lines, along with fortified positions. Most Russian armor right now is T-72 and T-62 MBT's and even combined with the rest of their armor, the vast majority have numerous mechanical/weapons issues that prevent them from being anywhere near their optimum original factory specs.

Mothballed tanks will be blowing seals and gaskets, all western tanks have built in automatically triggering safety devices to spare critical damage to the engine and these will disable the tank until repair etc. I would say all these will need base workshops level repair and overhaul that’s assuming that you could even find the mechanics with the skills and knowledge of the old models We haven’t even mentioned the comms and the sights and instruments A logistical nightmare It takes years to get an armoured brigade up and running like in my Cold War times Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦
