+1 ! Enduro battery Absolutely 4 SURE considering the conditions and the cold... I've noticed that this area isn't a terrifying no-fly zone. Thanks for the suggestion; once I get better, I'll try it too, but in the summer..

Thank you for your comment! Definitely, this area isn't as restrictive as some no-fly zones, making it a great spot to explore. Best of luck with your flying - keep us posted on how it goes! 😊🚁

Would have been cool to switch to the DVR when the gopro cut out and see the return trip to the base and prevent the "did you make it" comments etc. Also seeing / hearing you at the start and or end would add engagement. You deserve more subs, but engagement is what gets that. My 2c.

Don't be sad. If you don`t lose a quad from time to time, you are not pushing yourself to the limit. If a flight doesn't make your heart race, why bother? It has to be risky, exciting and thrilling... and sometimes that means losing a beloved quad! Your kids have the right spirit! 😃👍

first up, horror climb up there, the dive through the clouds was the real horror for me, pulling up seemed to keep you in the cloud? nightmare. bit surprised the gopro gave up before the flight pack, i wonder if it was gopro software protecting it or the actual battery. -35 is a lot to ask of anything. i would expect props to shatter at that kind of temp.

Indeed. Yeah, the cloud was a lot thicker than anticipated. We thought the GoPro battery would last long enough as the flight was not that long. The drone battery was protected from the cold.

Ja, I think it may have survived with a USB plugin, but it may also added to excessive power drain during the fight with the wind. I wonder whether the Enduro battery would make it though.

did you see the helicopter @ 39 seconds?
@Phoenix.-11 ай бұрын
Sure. There are several companies offering summit tours. We checked their routes and schedules and contacted them beforehand. There was also a helicopter that regularly flew low over the valley, delivering supplies to the restaurants. We scouted the area extensively to make sure it was not a no-fly zone and that we were flying in accordance with local regulations. My co-pilot monitored the area with binoculars keeping me constantly informed of the conditions. It's very important to take such measures to keep everyone safe, including para gliders and especially base jumpers. But they are not there in winter, they are more of a summer phenomenon.
@TheblackraddishFPV11 ай бұрын
Amazing, I was not having a go at you, I was just watching on my monitor and saw it there, most viewers probably watch on phones so would not have noticed it, I could imagine you take all precautions, Thanks for taking the time to respond and the great answer @@Phoenix.-

@@TheblackraddishFPV: No worries, I didn't take it that way. 🙂 I am actually glad you brought it up. Maybe more people saw it and drew their own conclusions (maybe even negative ones) instead of asking. But we think it is important to show that we are very responsible as a community - at least we have never met anyone who is serious about droning who is not.

@Phoenix.-9 ай бұрын
Do you drone alone? I can imagine it must be tough. There are several companies offering summit tours. We checked their routes and schedules beforehand. There was also a helicopter that regularly flew low over the valley, delivering supplies to the restaurants. We scouted the area and my co-pilot monitored the area with binoculars and kept me informed at all times of the conditions.
@brogdontsypko9 ай бұрын
@@Phoenix.- Yes usually alone so that adds so much stress! I didn't know that there were pre-scheduled routes. I do recall in the summer however, there were times when there was helicopters 80% of the time over or near the Matterhorn, mostly supply helicopters for the huts. Instead of just dropping supplies to the Hornli Hut they would fly around and enjoy the view as well
@Phoenix.-9 ай бұрын
@@brogdontsypko : I agree, the supply helicopter was the most unpredictable (although sometimes you had a 20-30 minute window once they took off towards the town.) They also fly very low, often right through your flight path. It is super helpful (and safe) to have a co-pilot who will either tell you not to worry because the helicopter is somewhere else than where you are, or who will tell you to abort the flight and get close to the ground. So, it is a good idea to pack enough batteries in any case. 😁

Well, the plan was to fly clean to the summit, descend to the valley and return with footage. Not only was the ascent compromised by the strong winds (but okay, that could be edited in post), we ended up in the cloud with zero visibility, so I had to punch out to avoid crashing blindly into a rock. And on the way back the GoPro battery died and the video just stopped. Meh.

What did ou expected when diving into a cloud? Also the wind shouldn’t have been a surprise when you can see clouds moving that fast in real time.
@Phoenix.-9 ай бұрын
TBH ... things change incredibly fast in the mountains. When we passed this cloud, it was not that thick and we expected it to be, firstly, much thinner (more like fog, really), and secondly, we did not expect it to be so close to the mountain, as these clouds usually leave open pockets (especially in strong winds). What may appear to be a thick cloud when you set off may have dissipated by the time you get there, and vice versa.
