Yep. I had the exact same experience when I was there. I even got the police called on me even though I was on the public beach, so I know what you're talking about. The real problem is these entitled people could try to get friends at the state government to fix all the damage using our tax dollars. People need to keep their eyes on them and keep them from dipping their dirty hands in our tax dollars.

I haven't had that issue in Florida yet but here in Michigan same issue except it's lake Michigan and lake Huron causing made erosion and all these lakeside mansions falling into the great lakes. A few years ago my wife said I would take vacation up by the lakes and I remember on summer we were swimming in the water and all of a sudden comes this entitled ssshole yelling at us to get off his beach sicking the sheriff on us His house this past month fell into lake Michigan. Kings Tide, High Tide, Hurricane Ian sand erosion, continual high tide against the leftover sea walls, and the westward winds that reached all the up to the carolinas were all factors of the inward push of the ocean as well as the intercoastal waterway/Halifax river onto the west side (US1).

Yeah, My in-laws lived on a farm in England. The owners was a Brewery heiress. Her ocean front home on a cliff disappeared 30 years ago. She was so tight she had the house taken apart and the lumber used on her farm and all the old homes she was buying up as "shelter for her farm help". In Florida the palm trees and oaks are dying due to saltwater intrusion on both coasts.

Not only that but when they dredge up sand from the ocean to keep up with the erosion on the beaches, it destroys all the marine life around the holes they make. Also, houses and buildings built on a barrier island increase the erosion. Its a never ending cycle of destruction all the way around.

I'm curious, why can't these homes be built on a barge like foundation, with outside supporting systems beefed up but, like a swing structure? Sand is shifting and such, so with a barge foundation the supporting process is outside, can shift as long as supporting columns are stout and can be skidded back by heavy equipment 🤔?
@climeaware4814
@climeaware4814 Жыл бұрын
Thats a good idea except storm surge. The barge like foundation is smart. pull the house back if the cliffs start to collapse. The barge can be transported by dolly wheels if needed.

And this is just a tropical storm. Imagine what a Cat 4 would do to that coast. Developers could care less about the impact on the future owners, they just rebuild bigger and bigger McMansions on the shoreline. Most places in OZ you're not allowed to build right on the beach. They leave the beaches alone, put a road along it and the houses go on the other side. When I visited the States I was surprised to see the houses in between the beach and the road so that you couldn't even see the ocean let alone get to it.

Those houses are built directly on top of sand, are you kidding me? Obviously they don’t have proper building codes enforcement down there? Why would anyone purchase a house worth what millions of dollars that’s built directly on top sand? They should be built further inland to help prevent these types of incidents. That’s ridiculous.
