Alaska is still a wild undeveloped place and its rivers can be violent.

... which is a great reason to NOT build an expensive house near any riverbank

Climate change melted the glacier.....
@TreFree-n7o Жыл бұрын
@@paleomagicksr.9880 these houses were actually really far from the river. The glacier melting eroded 2 football fields of coastline in 1 day.

Just like California, no home insurance, BUT you do not have to pay your taxes - a slap in the face

You want to build on the edge of a river, a clear-cut slope, or a mountain of chaparral... you will have a nice view but mother nature does not sell insurance.

This is why you dont build like that over water

They had close 50-100 yards of land between them and the river. It all eroded in 6 hours, 15' flood level from glacial dam burst. So...no one built "over" the water. They were outside the FEMA flood map as well.

@@jeremylavender9010 So you are referring to the ones that were on stills over the edge jut like the people in California dose on the hill sides?
@jeremylavender9010 Жыл бұрын
all of that area. They are not stilts, they are foundation pylons that were dug into the ground. Take a look at a google earth image of the area before, there is also a timelapse video showing the entire event. I am a local, so I know the area and the people who lost their home. @@kellwng
